AI Doctor : From Slave to Beast King

Chapter 142: Whipping Wisps

"Is it difficult to go past it?" Damien asked.

Serena sighed and nodded heavily. She squinted her eyes as if she were trying to see through the thick thatching of the leaves. She stated in a calm voice, "The Whipping Wisps is enchanted by elf magic. It stops anyone who enters the forest; even when the elves abandon the forest, these trees would still protect the land as if the master was still living in the forest."

"If I had known that this forest was actually land abandoned by the elves, I would have brought some orc's blood; that way we would have gotten past this hurdle," Sam said with a frown.

While the rest were worrying about how to cross this hurdle, Damien was trying to find a weakness of the enchanted tree. If he could find the weakness of a beast, then he could certainly find the weakness of an immobile tree.

He looked around for a long time and finally realised something. There were little pores on the trunk of the tree and from the data Dan collected, these pores were responsible for the entire mechanism of this tree.Nôv(el)B\\jnn

They absorbed the absorbing scent from the surroundings and activated the defensive mechanism of the tree. Most probably the spell that was cast on this tree was to keep anyone with a different scent that did not mingle with the forest outside.

Since that was the case —

"Come here." Damien called for the rest of the team.

Serena and the rest looked at him in confusion but they still walked over.

Damien raised his hand and then said to the three people, "Now stay still."

Before any of them could ask what he was doing, Damien cast the spell that he had used to drive the mosquitoes away in the temple of Helion.

"What is this awful smell?" Serena sniffed her clothes and gagged; as a beast woman with sharp senses, she felt the scent was too sharp and piercing. She raised her hand and fisted Damien's shirt in her hands and said to him, "What the fuck do you think you are doing?"

"Woah, hey," Damien raised his hands in the air in surrender and explained, "I am just trying to get us past this hurdle. This tree relies on absorbing the scent of its surroundings; because it has stayed in the forest for long, it can accurately detect the scents that belong to the forest or the ones that are foreign."

"Using this sharp scent, we can hide our own and walk past it."

"Are you sure?" Serena thought that he was bullshitting.

Damien shrugged and stated, "Why don't we try? Or you all can stand here and let the seekers come and beat us up before defeating us gloriously."

His words annoyed Serana; beast woman and men were competitive by nature; there was no way she would be willing to be defeated.

She thought about it before pushing Damien in front of her. "You first."

Damien rolled his eyes but he still marched ahead. When he arrived at the same spot where he was last smacked, he sucked in his breath before walking past the tree.

He wasn't the only one; the other three were also unconsciously holding their breaths. But when they saw that Damien had walked past the tree without getting hit, they cheered silently before rushing right behind him.

"I thought we had it," Dom whispered as they strode down the path.

"Me too," Sam patted his chest and grinned at Damien before saying, "You are quite smart; how did you realise that this is the case?"

Damien looked at the man who had thrown his arm around his neck before explaining, "It's not that difficult. Since Elves and Orcs are each other's enemies, everyone thinks that the whipping wisp is scared of the presence of the orc. However, that's not the cause of its lack of attack."

"Orcs and Elves live as enemies because they live in the same forest. Thus, even if whipping wisps can fend against outsiders, it cannot and doesn't detect orcs as its enemy."

"Ah, so that is the case!" Dom clapped his hands. "I thought that it was because elves feared the orcs."

Serena glanced at Damien; she admitted that she was quite impressed by his ability to see through the situation so quickly.

[I am back, my wings are tired.]

[If I had known that I would be this tired, I would have eaten a few more rats. They don't taste good when raw but they will suffice for now.]

Damien looked at the bird on his shoulders and then said to him, "Did you go hunting or to work? I asked you to keep an eye on things."

[Which I did.]

If eagles could roll their eyes, Claw certainly did.

[I was looking around the entire forest. It was just as this woman and goat boy said, that bad man chooses the same path as you master. He is trying to make his way towards you and your team. The rest of the teams went to the east thinking that it was safe.]

[But they ended up getting caught in a swamp and now most of them have been eliminated.]

[The third path has little spider beasts; they shoot tiny web pins. Though they are not dangerous, it makes it impossible for others to walk past them. Thus they ended up getting caught as well.]

"I didn't think that they would be so united," Damien remarked.

[What are you talking about, master? These teams were all taken down by that bad man's team. He even beat up those whom he shouldn't have! He is really a bad man, you should run away quickly.]

"What did you say?" Damien was so shocked that he couldn't control his voice and it turned shrill.

"What's wrong?" Serena paused and turned to look at the man behind her with a frown.

"Lexiel… he defeated every group. And now he is coming after us."
