Chapter 474: 469: Am I Cursed?
Chapter 474: Chapter 469: Am I Cursed?
Bloop, bloop?
(Master, are we going too?)
Delta asked, watching as the Thirteen Protectors began unsealing boxes around the Death Ice Forest.
“Go, of course we’re going.”
Bai Qi nodded, their food situation had improved recently, but they had not found any of the materials they were after. Now that a treasure trove was before them, they couldn’t pass it up.
With that, Bai Qi ran to a row of ice pillars, carefully picked out one, and pointed at it confidently, “Delta, break this one, there has to be something inside!”
Bloop, bloop!
(Okay, Master!)
Delta nodded, the silver candle flame in his right eye flickering. A surge of the Power of the Void transformed into an iron fist, which unerringly struck the ice pillar Bai Qi had singled out.
Instantly, the ice pillar shattered, and a scale that resembled a piece of ice crystal fell out.
“This is a scale shed by an Ice Breath Fish, the quality is very high!”
Ming Dian deftly caught the scale and handed it to Bai Qi.
“Hmm, good, at least we gained an Epic Material. The drop rate in this place is not low.”
Bai Qi nodded approvingly, picked out another ice pillar but did not let Delta smash it immediately. Instead, he cracked it to facilitate Bai Qi’s finishing blow.
With his luck running so high, he had to seize this opportunity!
Crack.
The ice pillar broke, and a pebble fluttered down into Bai Qi’s hand. It looked completely ordinary.
“Um, boss, I believe this is just some stone that was accidentally frozen by the Death Ice Pillar, it’s not useful.”
Ming Dian glanced at the stone in Bai Qi’s hand, hesitated for a moment, but eventually told Bai Qi the truth.
“A stone?”
Bai Qi looked at it with distaste and tossed it aside. He picked another ice pillar again.
After smashing more than a dozen ice pillars, Bai Qi finally gave up entirely.
“It seems there’s nothing of value in these ice pillars, Delta, you can smash whichever you like.”
Bai Qi muttered to himself, trying to find comfort in his own words.
Bloop, bloop.
(Alright, Master.)
Delta nodded, twirled his tail gently, and shattered an ice pillar.
Suddenly, a sharp, bone-chilling cold spread out, freezing the surrounding seawater.
“Sky Frost Coral? Judging by its quality, it’s just a step away from reaching Legendary Level.”
Ming Dian exclaimed upon seeing this, carefully took out the Sky Frost Coral from the frozen seawater, and presented it to Bai Qi.
“Another find?”
Bai Qi’s eye twitched slightly. This slap in the face came way too fast.
“Delta, try breaking another one?”
Delta nodded, casually broke the ice pillar next to him, and another Epic Material appeared.
“What the hell, am I being singled out here?”
Bai Qi, feeling skeptical, smashed another ice pillar. But the result ruthlessly validated his suspicions.
“Am I really this unlucky? But usually, my fortune isn’t so bad.”
Bai Qi looked somewhat dejected, but the Cowskin Snake that had always been coiled around Delta suddenly raised its head and suggested, “I bet it’s your pets that are the lucky ones, not you.”
“If you don’t speak up, nobody would think you’re mute.”
Bai Qi rolled his eyes irritably. After thinking for a while, he summoned all of the Six Pets and said, “Come come come, we have a quest.”
Howl, howl!
(I like this place!)
Seeing the dense array of ice pillars in front of him, Beta was instantly interested. He directly rushed out of the waterproof space constructed by Delta, nearly drowning in the seawater.
“This darn dog.”
Bai Qi sighed and covered his face. Turning to the other pets, he said, “There are many Ice Clan resources here, which can be used to enhance Jie Ta. So, let’s all work hard to smash these ice pillars.”
“However, remember to break them one by one. And each time, you must report the quality to me, okay?!”
Hearing Bai Qi’s request, all the pets were somewhat puzzled. They didn’t quite understand why their Beast Master had such a demand, but they obediently complied anyway.
“Um, boss, I’m just a worm, I don’t think this place is suited for me.”
After observing the surrounding environment, the Paramecium asked to withdraw immediately.
Alpha being a skeleton did not need to breathe.
The Husky had a diving suit, so couldn’t drown.
Gamma was highly resistant and could survive anywhere.
Delta was a True Dragon, all waters were his domain.
As for Jie Ta, that little fellow had already climbed onto an ice pillar.
Looking around, only the Paramecium seemed out of place here.
“No, you must go.”
Bai Qi was serious, “This is very serious, understand?”
“I understand.”
Seeing the murderous look in Bai Qi’s eyes, the Paramecium hastily affirmed and activated its force field to burrow into the seawater.
The Six Pets completed the task quickly and each brought their respective findings back to Bai Qi. But when Bai Qi saw the quality of the materials they had retrieved, he felt his spirits drop.
In retrospect, the Evolution Egg started to hatch only when Alpha was around, even the patents were all his creation, and it seemed the other gains were also made when Alpha and the others were present.
Sure enough, he was indeed the epitome of extremely bad luck.
Argh…
Suddenly, he really wanted to be a paramecium~
Uh huh uh huh?
(What’s wrong with humans?)
“Nothing, just a blow to my self-confidence.”
The cowskin snake shook its head, found a comfortable position on Delta, and fell asleep again.
Ever since Delta had evolved, his scent had become increasingly pleasant.
“Should we go and comfort the Big Brother?”
Seeing Bai Qi in this state, one of the Thirteen Protectors, Ming Dian, couldn’t help but ask.
“Yes, give it a try.”
Ming Dian nodded. He had brought Bai Qi to the Death Ice Forest due to wanting to help him, and to prevent him from going fishing again.
They had long known about Bai Qi’s fishing exploits from the offspring of Tiger Hunting Demon Whale King, one of the Thirteen Protectors.
A few giant species, a dozen large ones, and countless smaller sea beasts.
If Bai Qi were to retaliate by going on a fishing spree out of frustration here in the forest, who knows how many sea beasts would remain after the Deep Sea Council concluded their discussions.
However, before Ming Dian could even persuade him, Bai Qi suddenly regained his fighting spirit, even more so than before.
What’s wrong with being unlucky when he was willing to work to the bone? He wasn’t going to concede defeat to the Death Ice Forest!
“My pets, our goal today is to conquer this Death Ice Forest!”
…
Crack!
Another ice pillar shattered, Bai Qi caught the crystal glimmering with aurora, and let out a long howl.
“Who said you can’t change your luck with hard work and money?! Didn’t I just work out my luck!”
Seeing how excited Bai Qi was, the some of the Thirteen Protectors couldn’t help but smirk awkwardly.
Roughly estimating, Bai Qi had probably broken around 800 to 1000 ice pillars, but all he got was this one epic piece. His luck was indeed unmatched.
Uh huh uh huh?
(Has the human gone mad? Should I perform a chant for him?)
Beta looked sympathetically at Bai Qi but was punched by Jerry.
“Shut up, the Beast Master seems a bit off.”
Jerry looked at Bai Qi as the Judgment Scale subtly appeared, covering Bai Qi. Then black breath started floating out from Bai Qi.
Gagalagala?
(Is this a curse?)
Seeing this, Alpha immediately got up. A chilling Sword Intent was on the verge of bursting out.
“It’s similar, but it’s more like what humans call bad luck.”
Jery shook his head. The scale behind him gently waved, pulling out the black breath. Bai Qi felt a sense of lightness all over and looked at Jerry in confusion.
“Jerry? What are you guys doing?”
Jerry informed Bai Qi of the findings. Upon hearing it, Bai Qi understood and was filled with confidence.
He knew it! How could a chosen one like him ever be associated with misfortune?
“However, how did I suddenly get this unlucky aura? Was I cursed by someone?”
Jerry shook his head and said, “If someone cursed you, I would have detected it. Unless you’re really about to have some bad luck.”
“Bad luck?”
Bai Qi was startled. He then suddenly swung his hammer and smashed a semi-broken ice pillar.
An epic ice attribute pearl appeared. Guided by Delta, it slowly fell into Bai Qi’s hands.
This wasn’t bad luck; it was clear that he was about to take off!
Boom!
Just as Bai Qi was feeling bemused, a violent explosion suddenly erupted from deep inside the Death Ice Forest. It seemed as if a colossal creature was rampaging inside.
“Ming Dian, are there any legendary sea beasts that have joined the Deep Sea Alliance nearby?”
Feeling the powerful aura coming from afar, Bai Qi couldn’t help but ask Ming Dian.
“All the legendary ferocious beasts in the South Sea have joined the Great Alliance, except for the Asura Shark King, who was killed by the chairman.”
Ming Dian shook his head, thought of a possibility, and added, “Even though most of the Death Ice Sea is in the South Sea region, a part of it also extends into the Ice Sea. Maybe a legendary sea beast from the West Sea is trying to collect resources for its offspring?”
“No, it seems to be heading our way.”
Schuck quickly simulated the unknown sea beast’s course and said sternly, “Beast Master, I suggest we retreat immediately.”
“Okay.”
Bai Qi nodded, put away all the other pets, and had the Thirteen Protectors ride on Delta’s back, small-sized, ready to flee. But before Delta could escape into the void, a giant squid suddenly barreled out of the Death Ice Forest and appeared in front of them.
“Legendary sea beast of the West Sea, Lucent Squid!”
Ming Dian sighed in relief upon seeing it. The Lucent Squid was a very docile creature. Despite its ferocious look, it was famously kind in maritime territories.
Whether it was in the West Sea or the South Sea, if you were injured and came across it, the Lucent Squid would gladly heal you.
So, whether it was the legendary Lucent Squid or its pre-evolved forms, sea beasts would not harm them.
“The state of the Lucent Squid looks off. It doesn’t look like it’s attacking, but rather…struggling?”
Bai Qi furrowed his brows slightly. However, Alpha seemed to have noticed something and unconsciously looked at Lucent Squid’s tentacles.
At the tip of the tentacles, something black seemed to be smeared on them.
