Chapter 289: Three Years
Who’s going to kick the bucket? Who? Say it clearly!
Just as Spike Warrior was about to question it, he suddenly realized something and froze, his face blank.
In the next moment, he snapped back to reality, propping himself up on his hands and doing a handstand once more.
“Spike! Spike!”
Spike Warrior, sensing the changes in his body, looked thrilled.
He alternated between supporting himself on his left hand and right hand, switching back and forth as he did a single-handed handstand.
“Feel like you’re in top health now?” Qiao Sang asked with a smile.
“Spike!”
Spike Warrior finished the handstand, landed on his feet, and gave Qiao Sang a deep bow to express his gratitude.
He understood that his injury had healed, all thanks to this human.“Lu.”
At that moment, Lubao stepped forward, calling out to acknowledge her presence.
“Spike!”
Spike Warrior understood and bowed to Lubao as well.
“Lu.”
Lubao showed a satisfied expression.
“Xuuun.”
Little Treasure floated forward, trying to join in the excitement.
Spike Warrior glanced at Little Treasure and ignored him.
Little Treasure: …
Why is there no bow for me?
“Spike!”
After bowing, Spike Warrior looked thrilled, his eyes gleaming, and then he eagerly ran off deeper into the building.
“Xun?"
Little Treasure tilted his head as he watched Spike Warrior's retreating figure.
Where did the scent go?
Seeing Little Treasure’s expression lifted Qiao Sang’s mood entirely.
Although she wasn’t familiar with Spike Warrior, using a Healing Light that only consumed energy to save a young life was a worthwhile trade!
Qiao Sang bent down to pick up Lubao, just about to head back when she saw Liu Qijia running over.
“Where did you go? You disappeared all of a sudden!” Liu Qijia panted.
“I was just here.” Qiao Sang replied.
Liu Qijia: …
With that answer, it made his question seem silly… Liu Qijia grumbled inwardly.
“Little Treasure ran off, so I chased him here.” Qiao Sang explained.
“Xun~”
Little Treasure blinked innocently.
Liu Qijia glanced at the mischievous little ghost pet and decided it was best not to delve into why it ran off.
If he got too curious and caught its attention, it might be a problem, this was a ghost-type pet, after all…
“Forget it; let’s hurry…” Liu Qijia started to say, but his eyes landed on the pet in Qiao Sang’s arms, and he paused.
“Is that your third contracted pet?”
“Mm-hmm.” Qiao Sang nodded.
“It looks pretty…” Liu Qijia reached out to pet it.
“Lu.”
Lubao’s tail slapped his hand.
“…feisty.” Liu Qijia pulled back, choosing his words carefully.
“We should go find your dad. Don’t you need to get back to school in time for bed check?” Qiao Sang reminded him.
“Right! Right!” Liu Qijia nodded, leading the way.
“I called my dad earlier; he’s in the aerobic training area.” Liu Qijia said as they walked.
“Do you have a phone on you?” Qiao Sang asked.
“Nope.”
Liu Qijia replied, “I ran into a family friend, and he let me use his phone.”
Qiao Sang didn’t say anything further.
As they walked, Liu Qijia kept sneaking glances at the pet in Qiao Sang’s arms before he finally couldn’t help but ask, “What’s this pet’s name? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before.”
“Ice Qiya, a pet from the Ancient Guwu Region.” Qiao Sang replied.
“No wonder…” Liu Qijia said, a look of realization on his face.
No wonder he hadn’t seen it before, it was from the Ancient Guwu Region.
If this cute creature were local, every girl around here would probably have one…
As they chatted, Liu Qijia stopped at a door.
“We’re here.”
He opened the door and entered, with Qiao Sang following behind.
As soon as she stepped in, she saw Spike Warrior.
“Spike!”
Spike Warrior was glaring angrily at a middle-aged man.
“It’s not that I don’t want to contact your beastmaster.”
The man sighed, “But your beastmaster already told me he’s busy in another region for the next few months. He said I should only message if needed, not call.”
“I send him a message every day. He’s probably too busy to notice, but once he does, he’ll reach out, and I’ll tell you as soon as possible.”
“Spike!”
Spike Warrior looked anxious, doing a handstand and constantly switching between his left and right hands to show that he was perfectly fine now.
“I know you’re better now.” The man’s eyes softened with pity as he sighed.
“I tried contacting your beastmaster just now, but he didn’t answer.”
“Spike…”
Spike Warrior stopped his handstand, a devastated look on his face. He seemed lost and despondent as he slowly walked out of the room.
“Xun!”
Little Treasure’s nose twitched as he watched Spike Warrior’s back, and his eyes lit up.
That scent is back!
Qiao Sang noticed Little Treasure’s reaction and let her thoughts wander.
Lubao had just used Healing Light on Spike Warrior, there was no way it would wear off in less than ten minutes.
So the scent that had drawn Little Treasure earlier might not have been death energy after all…
At least no one else noticed, so it’s not awkward… Qiao Sang comforted herself.
“Lu.”
No one noticed that Lubao, watching Spike Warrior leave, seemed thoughtful.
“Dad!” Liu Qijia called out.
“You’re here.” The middle-aged man, Liu’s father, turned to Qiao Sang.
“Is this your top student friend?”
“Yes.” Liu Qijia nodded.
“Hello, Uncle.” Qiao Sang greeted politely.
“Hello.” Liu’s dad smiled awkwardly.
“Feel free to sit.”
If you want me to sit, there should at least be a chair! Qiao Sang glanced around the room, noticing the lack of any seating.
“I’ll just stand.”
Liu’s dad noticed the problem and laughed awkwardly. “Son, go grab a few chairs.”
“Oh.” Liu Qijia replied, leaving the room.
The atmosphere turned awkward as silence fell.
The father tried to speak several times but seemed uncertain of what to say.
To be honest, he was only used to rough, straightforward company aside from his wife, he rarely interacted with women, let alone delicate young girls like Qiao Sang.
Finally, Qiao Sang broke the silence.
“Uncle, what’s the story with that Spike Warrior?”
“Oh, him." Liu’s dad replied.
“He’s a pet that a beastmaster left in our care. He was just hoping I could contact his beastmaster to come pick him up.”
So it was a pet in foster care… Qiao Sang understood.
If beastmasters couldn’t keep up with the training demands for all their pets or had other real-life obligations, they often chose to leave their pets at specialized training centers for extended training.
“Has his beastmaster not picked him up in a long time?” Qiao Sang asked.
After a pause, Liu’s dad replied, “Quite a while… three years.”
