Chapter 145 : Emotions
Avalonia Kingdom
----------------
Deep within a damp, shadowy forest, a chilling scene unfolded.
Clad in black from head to toe, several figures moved stealthily among the twisted trees that loomed like sentinels of darkness.
The air was thick with an oppressive gloom, punctuated only by faint glimmers of light struggling to break through the canopy above.
These figures, thousands in number, were dressed like assassins, their faces stark and uncovered, revealing expressions of cold vigilance and unwavering focus.
As they scanned their surroundings with emotionless gazes, an aura of dread enveloped them.
Suddenly, the trees began to shake violently as terrifying screams echoed through the forest, amplifying the sense of impending doom.
From the shadows emerged grotesque creatures that seemed to defy description, twisted forms that were both hideous and horrifying.
As these nightmarish beings charged forth, fear flickered across the once-implacable faces of the black-clad figures; their bodies trembled as if confronting their worst nightmares.
In an instant, chaos erupted, the dark forest transformed into a battleground.
---
"Jarvis," Zephyr said with a furrowed brow as he surveyed the hall filled with trembling figures, "this test seems far more challenging than previous ones."
Standing beside him was Jarvis, his expression unyielding as he observed the scene before them. "Assassins are meant to be devoid of emotion," he replied coolly. "Feelings are shackles that hinder mission execution."
Zephyr frowned deeper at Jarvis's words. "But emotions are what make us human! Without them, we become mere puppets, living corpses devoid of joy or sorrow."
Jarvis continued undeterred: "Each figure here is confronting their greatest desire in what I call the Chamber of Desire. Only by vanquishing these desires can they achieve true emotional detachment, becoming relentless killing machines capable of executing any order without hesitation."
"I understand your point," Zephyr countered passionately. "Yet emotions are foundational to life itself! They enrich our experiences and connect us to one another. To be emotionless is to lose one's essence."
Jarvis sneered dismissively. "You underestimate how cruel this world can be! Emotions weaken you; only by embracing extreme resolve can you truly advance on your path."
"I refuse to believe that!" Zephyr shot back vehemently. "What makes us humane is our capacity for emotion! A life stripped of feelings is no life at all, it's merely existence without purpose!"
Silence hung between them as Jarvis remained stoic and expressionless.
A few moments later, Jarvis shook his head thoughtfully. "Everyone has their own perspective," he began calmly. "To me, emotions are a burden, one that can weigh you down. Your big brother is incredibly talented; trust me when I say he shouldn't be shackled by feelings. His future accomplishments could be legendary, but instead, he hesitates because of the emotional ties that bind him."
He paused for emphasis before continuing, "Do you know what's truly dangerous? It's someone who has no attachments whatsoever. That person can make decisions without worrying about the consequences because they have nothing to lose. If your big brother were alone, I believe he would already be at Tier 9 by now, but alas, he is held back by his emotions."
Zephyr interjected with conviction, "Even with his emotions, my big bro is astounding! His future achievements will still shine brightly. Sadness, happiness, disgust, fear, anger, these six emotions are what make us feel alive!"
Jarvis simply waved his hand dismissively. "Well, everyone sees things differently," he replied.
Both turned their gazes toward the thousands of black-clad figures in the vast dark hall below them.
The figures trembled and perspired; their faces were as pale as sheets of paper, void of color.
"How many do you think will pass this test?" Zephyr asked curiously.
"It depends on their willpower," Jarvis explained. "When I took this test years ago, it took me ten long years to pass this final challenge. Everyone in this world has desires, desires they struggle to let go of completely, and facing your greatest desires to eliminate them isn't easy."
Zephyr nodded slowly; his eyes flickered as he observed the scene unfolding in the hall below.
"What they're experiencing is just a fraction of what I went through back then," Jarvis remarked somberly. "If I unleashed the full power of this illusion on them... their brains would have burned out by now."
"I must say," Zephyr mused while rubbing his chin thoughtfully, "this illusion of yours is quite fascinating! Why not use it to train our members? They could strengthen their willpower through such experiences, it would benefit both them and us!"
Jarvis considered this for a moment before nodding in agreement. "That's a good idea; if they can train in this kind of illusion, they'll face real-life situations with a much calmer attitude."
Silence enveloped them as they continued to observe the chaotic scene below, a chorus of muffled groans echoed from the throng.
"It seems like this won't end anytime soon," Zephyr sighed. "I'll head back now."
"Okay." Jarvis nodded slowly, his expression as cold and unyielding as a block of ice. Zephyr vanished from sight, leaving Jarvis staring at the empty space where he had stood.
After a few moments, he shook his head and turned his gaze to the scene unfolding below.
"Finn, how is everything going?" Zephyr asked, glancing at Finn who stood before him.
"Gate Master," Finn replied respectfully, "everything is progressing well with our expansion plan. There have been some minor skirmishes with a few gangs on Windspirit Avenue, but it's nothing we can't handle."
Zephyr frowned slightly. "Make sure nothing escalates. Our current strength here is weak; be cautious in your actions."
"Understood, Gate Master." Finn nodded seriously.
"And how is the project coming along?" Zephyr inquired.
Finn straightened up. "The project is halfway complete. We estimate it will be finished by the end of next month."
"How many variations have you developed?" Zephyr pressed.
"We've produced about thirty unique types so far. Our team is working diligently to wrap it up as soon as possible," Finn responded.
"Good." Zephyr nodded approvingly. "Once it's done, report back to me, I want to take a look."
"Of course, Gate Master," Finn said with a respectful nod.
"Where's Clark?" Zephyr leaned back in his chair lazily.
"He's currently out of the district handling some matters," Finn replied.
Zephyr nodded thoughtfully. "When he returns, tell him I'd like to see him."
"Understood, Gate Master."
With a wave of his hand, Zephyr dismissed Finn. The door closed behind him, leaving only Zephyr alone in the dim room, staring blankly at the ceiling.
"I wonder what big bro is up to..." he muttered absently.

CRACK! BOOOOOM!
A massive bolt of violet lightning struck the ground with an earth-shattering roar, creating a ten-meter-wide hole charred black and billowing smoke into the air.
Felix frowned as he surveyed the damage from several meters away. "Not enough! The casting speed is too slow and the power isn't strong enough!"
From behind him came Nixie's incredulous voice: "Big bro! You say this isn't strong enough? That lightning strike could instantly kill a Tier 3 Mana Cultivator and heavily injure a Tier 4! Even Tier 5 would struggle against this attack!"
Felix shook his head with determination. "I don't want just any kill; I want to take down a Tier 5 Mana Cultivator in one blow! Meaningless fights aren't my style."
"Well, if one attack doesn't work, why not try three? I'm sure that would take down a Tier 5 Mana Cultivator," Nixie suggested with a smirk.
Felix shook his head stubbornly. "It's too slow."
Nixie raised an eyebrow. "So what are you going to do about it?"
Felix sighed, frustration evident on his face. "I'm stuck on this lightning spell. I've combined several different techniques, but the power just isn't cutting it."
Nixie rolled her eyes dismissively and returned to practicing her wind spells. "Not my problem."
With a resigned shake of his head, Felix resumed contemplating his bottleneck.
Minutes passed without any breakthrough. Finally, he took a deep breath and resolved, "Alright, let's focus on the other lightning spells."
He stepped into the center of the training ground and closed his eyes for a moment before opening them again with renewed determination.
Tier 5 Lightning Elemental Spell : Instant Transposition!.
A violent magic circle erupted beneath him as he unleashed the spell. In an instant, he vanished from sight, only to reappear about a hundred meters away in a flash of lightning.
His eyes sparkled with excitement as he teleported again in another bolt of electricity, covering even more distance in mere seconds.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The training ground transformed into a dazzling display of flickering light as Felix continued teleporting at an ever-increasing speed.
Nixie glanced over while practicing her own spells and gasped in awe at Felix's display.
She quickly retreated from the chaotic scene. "I wish I could do that too!" she murmured enviously.
After several minutes of intense practice, Felix halted and surveyed the training ground with wide eyes.
It was now dotted with small charred holes emitting wisps of white smoke, each mark left by his rapid teleportation.
"Looks like I need to reinforce this place," he chuckled to himself. "But hey, this spell is fantastic for sneaking up on someone for a surprise attack!"
His smile faded as he pondered aloud, "Though that thunderclap sound really disrupts the stealth aspect…"
Suddenly struck by inspiration, Felix's gaze landed on Nixie once more, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.
Feeling an ominous shift in the air, Nixie's expression turned pale as she sensed trouble brewing.
Without hesitation, she bolted away at lightning speed. "Big bro! Whatever evil plan you're cooking up, count me out!" she shouted over her shoulder.
"Damn! This girl can run fast!" Felix exclaimed as he sprinted after her. "Wait! It's something good, I'll give you 100 million gold coins as a reward!"
Nixie hesitated mid-run when she heard that jaw-dropping amount but quickly shook her head and kept going. "I don't want it! ".
But Nixie, shaking her head defiantly, resumed her escape. "I don't want it!" she shouted back.
"Wow, did Nixie just turn down money? Is this really the girl I know?" Felix thought, taken aback by her unexpected rejection.
