Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 3990 Unexpected Encounter

Chapter 3990  Unexpected Encounter

The swirling vortex of darkness enveloped Davis and Lea. It fell and exploded into a dark fog. Within this darkness, no one was able to see what had happened.

However, the Autarch who threw that attack didn't bother to check and went back to stare at the pillars and comprehend Darkness Laws from the ancient runes etched on them.

He was convinced they would be dead. The others also felt the same.

Vereina frowned. She wondered if it was one of her enemies whom she killed and absorbed their souls. If it was, she felt relieved. After all, she didn't know any other person who would know of her in this Lower Realm.

And as expected, that audacious man didn't seem to survive along with his woman or companion as there was no sign of them. n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

Many frowned.

There was not even a corpse left? More importantly, there was no sign of a spatial ring or the life ring that idiot was wearing on his hands. Surely that Autarch's attack couldn't be that ruthless?

'He must've escaped by some miracle or a short-distance spatial teleportation talisman…'

Many of them mused. They even thought he was a big shot from some big family, but what could he do against an Autarch?

They merely snickered silently and went back to comprehending.

Davis appeared far away from the dome with Lea in his hand. They appeared out of concealment, and Lea turned to look at him.

"Good decision." Lea smiled at him, "As a Sect Master, that's what I would've also done. Our mission comes first, but as your wife, I can't tolerate his transgression. Can we kill him after we lead him away from here?"

Her voice turned cold, devoid of the flames she possessed.

"Of course." Davis smiled.

He didn't seem offended one bit. To him, it was just a monkey throwing a pebble at him. He couldn't respond, or it would only make him a laughing stock as he had more to lose by making it known that the Divine Emperor of Death was here.

If he was going to hide the mini-realm in this place, then he absolutely needed this place to have no noteworthy events.

An Autarch dying was definitely a noteworthy event. That's why Lea suggested to lure him out first.

"Who are you two?"

Abruptly, a violet-robed woman appeared behind them. Her black hair loosely fell down her shoulder, and her voice was melodious yet deeply cautious.

She pointed a silver dagger at them coated with bluish-black poison at the edge, maintaining distance. Her Level Seven Immortal Emperor undulations were calm but looked like it was ready to burst at any moment, making it so that anyone who was facing her would dare not make a move for fear of retaliation.

Davis cast a look at her, smiling with amusement.

"It's fine that you don't recognize me, but you still haven't recognized her?" He gestured towards Lea with his head.

Vereina frowned behind her crimson veil. She cast a glance at the red-robed woman, closely looking at her.

"I know it's difficult for you to see within the darkness, but look closely."

"Hmph! I won't fall for your trickery."

Vereina quickly cast her gaze back at him, not bothering to look at a Level Five Immortal Emperor anymore. She was more wary of the Level Nine Immortal Emperor, who escaped an Autarch's attack through unknown methods. She couldn't even see what happened.

"Vereina, drop your weapon, or I will punish you~" At this moment, Lea's voice resounded.

For the slightest moment, Vereina hesitated, feeling like she had heard this voice before, and then it hit her, causing her eyes to widen.

"No… way…"

She trembled ever so lightly, blinking at Lea as she tried to look closely. She returned her gaze to him, her heart skipping a beat.

"Then, you are-"

"Yes," Davis answered. He raised his finger to his chin and temporarily revealed his face as the Karmic Impersonation Technique partially came undone.

"…!" Vereina stood shocked.

Davis returned the karmic impersonation. His control over it had increased after repeated use, and he could now actively form a karmic thread connection with others so that they could perceive him for who he was rather than the impersonated identity.

Therefore, Lea and the others could see it was him but not the others.

He continued, "No need to mention it. I'm glad you are doing fine ever since you left."

"I didn't leave… your side…" Vereina hurriedly shook her head, "I just went to do missions for Aurora Cloud Gate. I completed a lot and earned many contribution points. I was able to exchange contribution points for many resources and use their time chambers for cultivation, but as I was cultivating, I was teleported to this Three-Headed Hydra Lower Realm that day. Otherwise, I was planning on returning to your side."

Davis blinked. With how hard he was on her, he definitely thought she left his side.

It was months before he had seen her again, after all. He thought she left silently, but when he sensed with Heart Intent now, it didn't seem to be the case.

Davis's gaze softened.

"I see your cultivation has quickly grown to Level Eight Immortal Emperor Stage." He wasn't surprised.

He guessed her prowess was on the lower end than his wives, but with the Violent Punitive Soul Physique she possessed, it was far easier for her to increase her cultivation by plundering the souls of her enemies and refining them.

How could he forget?

It was the technique from her physique that allowed him to scare Autarch Elluro Coldwing to death at the right moment. If it weren't for that, the only alternative he possessed was Fallen Heaven's raw soul essence absorption, but that didn't pull when the target was alive. They had to kill first before taking their soul essence, but Vereina's soul physique was different.

She could devour while her target while still alive.

Now, if he used this technique with Fallen Heaven's energy directly, its soul-devouring power was practically the strongest technique he had against a lifeform.

"Of course," Vereina giggled and waved the dagger at him sassily, "I thought you were one of the enemies I created here. I killed a lot of scum and plundered their souls, you know."

"Hard to think you haven't found out yet."

Davis chuckled, "But that's great. I've made more revisions to the technique I devised. Do you want? It's free."

Vereina's gaze lit up, "I've also made some improvements, but I have a feeling you have gained more. We can both share. Let me share. I'm eager to share~"

"Great. We can share, but I'm heading deeper into the chasm, so we'll discuss it later. You can wait there-"

"No, I'm coming with you. I'm not losing sight of you again." Vereina's eyes were wide.

She looked as though she couldn't hope to lose her treasure trove.

"Are you sure you don't want to return?" Davis blinked as he looked into the dome at the distance of the narrow path.

He could barely see it within the darkness and the narrow opening, but the howling sound of the wind drowned out every hint of sound one could hear from there.

"I'm sure you worked hard to get into that circle of young masters and old farts." He added.

Vereina shrugged, "I killed their enemies and managed to get into their sect as they invited me. It turns out that they had a connection with the Three-Headed Hydra Clan's imperial family and managed to secure a spot in that formation back there, so with the recent achievements I made, I also managed to get a spot, but that doesn't compare to being with you. Without you having taught me that revamped soul-devouring technique, I wouldn't have been able to become this powerful so soon. Now, almost everyone there fears me even though I have just shown the slightest bit of its power. Words couldn't explain how I'm grateful to you~"

Her eyes were full of vibrancy as she talked to him as though she was a long-lost puppy that had found its way back to its owner, making Davis speechless.

Suddenly, her expression became solemn as she turned to look back and verified that no one was there before returning her gaze to Davis.

"That old fart- that Autarch who dared to attack you is also one of the Grand Elders of my sect, but he's aiming to take advantage of me sooner or later, greedy for my soul-devouring technique and perhaps even my body. You wouldn't let him take it, would you?"

Vereina's eyes turned teary. She blinked innocently and squeezed herself to look as pitiful as possible.

Davis laughed without making a sound. He was glad that she was back at her antics.

He still remembered the day they first met. He had kidnapped her, and she was acting, mixing truth and lies, and doing everything in her power as a woman to get out of a precarious situation he had created for her.

"He's dead anyway." Davis's voice turned cold, "Most likely, he tried to sell you a favor by attacking me, your enemy who came to get revenge. Clearly, he's looking to meet you alone. Perhaps you can lure him out with your soul-devouring technique as the bait later."

"Will do." Vereina nodded, even appearing to look forward to it.

"Alright, let's go."

Davis turned around and headed deeper into the fourth level. Lea held his hand and walked along with him while Vereina followed.

She looked at their hands and saw Lea giving her a side-eye as though warning not to get in between them.

Vereina silently giggled. She knew how his women were crazy for him.

Slowly, her smile faded, replaced with an odd feeling. She still couldn't wrap her head around his disguise. She still couldn't tell if he was truly Davis or not, as his disguise was flawless, and even his aura was different, although her gut feeling said he was indeed Davis. Besides, there were a lot of questions in her mind.

Wasn't he being hunted down? The last thing she had heard about him was that he killed over forty Empyreans and Autarchs. That took her breath away and made her feel a cold chill about his growth rate.

He was too strong, unbelievably so. That's one of the reasons why she wanted to stick with him and not lose sight of him.

Moreover, what was he doing here? What was the mission they were talking about?

She didn't know but intended to stick with him as she knew it was good for her soul physique. She really couldn't thank him enough. Her soul physique's devouring prowess had increased by over three hundred percent. That was terrifying— to her enemies and even to her, it was a matter she didn't dare dream of.

She intended to learn more and even become his disciple if needed.

In fact, she already looked at him like he was her teacher.
