Chapter 59: Catching Eels For You To Play With

[Ding!]

[Seven-day gift pack has been awarded to Host. Please check at your own leisure.]

The golden embroidered sack appeared as expected in Jiang He’s empty System Backpack, and it opened with a thought from Jiang He.

[+1,000 Farm Points. Congratulations, Host!]

Damn it!

Jiang He cursed.

It was not Mysterious Soil...

Even if a thousand farm points was a perfectly acceptable reward, Mysterious Soil was sold at the System Shop for five thousand farm points. As such, Jiang He was suffering a loss no matter how he saw it. Although, he did understand that with login rewards and seven-day gift packs, all the items he would get were random, so he must not hold too much hope.

Glancing at his System, he now had over 5,000 farm points left after planting a few qi pellets trees, before using their ashes to plant carrots and peppers. Including the 1,000 he got from the seven-day gift pack, he had over 6,000 farm points now.

“I’ll go to the city and have someone forge me a war sword, and then plant a swordplay manual.”

When he stepped out, Jiang He ran headlong into Wang Sizhen.

There had been no construction work for Jiang He’s mansion over the last two days. After all, the Revival of Qi had caused too much of a stir. With everyone in the village left fearing for their lives, who would have the mood to work?

“Sorry, Jiang He. I’ve spoken to the workers and work will probably resume tomorrow... We’ve still got to make a living even if the world crumbles now, don’t we? Anyway, your mansion is in the end phase of construction now, and I can arrange for the piping and wiring fellows to come in the day after tomorrow. By the way, you mentioned wanting to put up a wall around your yard, right? I’ve contacted someone to bring the bricks and start working on that tomorrow morning.”

After thanking Wang Sizhen, Jiang He said, “How about this? You tell the workers that we’ll change things up starting tomorrow—whoever can come, should come.”

The rank-six Feral wolf corpses were massive, with each weighing at least a ton. Jiang He had decided to keep one to feed his dog, and use what remained to reward the workers.

Still, the cucumbers were more important. He still had over twenty of them, and he could use them to make coleslaw, while also melting dozens of qi pellets for tea. It might be able to change the physicality of most people, and even if someone were to suspect, he could just blame it on the Feral meat.

As for expanding...

That had never once crossed Jiang He’s mind.

“I am not that grand. I just need to mind my little farm.”

Sigh.

As Jiang He walked out into the alley, he found the villagers grouped together. They were all talking about the Revival of Qi, with some worried and others panicked, though most of them were just curious.

“Did you hear? Two Dog Li of the breeder’s union is one of the Awakened mentioned on TV. He is so strong, he could punch a cow to death,” said someone mysteriously, in a hushed whisper.

Curious, the others began to ask about it. Jiang He’s mouth twitched. He suspected that Two Dog Li had spread that news himself.

“Oh, right... I haven’t seen him in days. And knowing his character, he wouldn’t be so discreet that he would stay home now, would he?”

Jiang He was a little regretful. He should have bought a few more cars back when he was in the city. Moreover, he himself wrecked his Raptor pickup truck even before it had a license plate or was driven more than thirty kilometers.

As he took a cab, Jiang He thought, ‘I should go to town and buy up to eight cars, then modify a few so that they become bulletproof and explosion-proof... Eh?’

His eyes suddenly twinkled as he thought to himself, ‘Since I can grow blades and pellets, why not try growing a car? I should get some Mysterious Soil to strengthen it, and then I just may get a Transformer.’

That was when the car slowed down. Looking forward, Jiang He saw that there was still another five hundred meters to go before the next traffic light, but there were other cars lined up all the way there.

“What’s the matter, driver? Why is traffic stuck before we get to the city?”

The driver, a middle-aged man, flashed him a pained smile. “Why else other than the Revival of Qi? Since it’s said that Ferals are eating people out there, and it’s safer inside cities, many want to move. Moreover, there are some dangerous characters on the wanted list, so the authorities’ searches have been quite tight.”

Jiang He hence paid the driver and got out of the taxi. Since the crossroads at the streetlight right ahead led into the city, and traffic was so jammed, why not just walk there? Arriving at the crossroads, he found several armed police inspecting the oncoming vehicles, with people sent from the Martial Arts Department (MAD) assisting them.

Wang Siyu was there too, along with a baby-faced girl who had a stunning body. Jiang He remembered that her name was Liu Xue or something like that. Aside from them, he also saw another familiar face—Su Ze, who was having a boxed lunch while learning on a police car.

When he saw Jiang He, he first shuddered, before putting down his lunch and running up to him with a bright smile. “Why have you come, Mister Jiang?”

“Get lost!” barked Jiang He in irritation. He then smirked. “You dog. You actually got your martial uncle to bother me just because I slapped you twice?”

Su Ze’s legs went weak, and he almost dropped to his knees. “Mister Jiang, that’s a misunderstanding! This is all a misunderstanding caused by my pride. I did not take what happened between us seriously, nor did I mention it to my martial uncle...”

He was almost in tears. Moreover, how could he, Su Ze, not know that Jiang He had entered the mountains alone, wiping out a Feral wolf pack and ten Sky Demon cultists, when news of his feat had spread amongst the MAD?

“Oh?” Jiang He appeared doubtful. “Alright, go about your work. I’ll just have to break your legs if I learn that you’re up to no good again... By the way, where’s your martial uncle?”

“He’s in seclusion,” said Su Ze, wiping the sweat off his brow. “He started three days ago, and he said he won’t come out before he reaches rank-seven!”

Jiang He eyes twinkled.

Was Cheng Dongfeng going to make a breakthrough? That would be perfect timing, since Jiang He was looking to test himself against a martial arts grandmaster. He laughed, leaving Su Ze utterly perplexed.

What is going on? Why are you so excited about my martial uncle’s secluded cultivation, when I, his martial nephew, am not?

Meanwhile, Wang Siyu and Liu Xue also came over to them.

“Brother Jiang He, have you caught me a Feral baby?” Liu Xue pouted coquettishly. “I really want one!”

Catch, my foot!

That tone of hers... left Jiang He really uncomfortable.

Still, he had good manners, and so he reached out and forced himself to pat Liu Xue’s head. “Alright, I’ll catch a few eels for you to play with next time.”

Then, he turned to Wang Siyu. “Oh, right. Remember to come to my house for lunch tomorrow.”

That was when she dragged him aside and whispered, “Be careful these days, Jiang He. Two Sky Demon cultists are on the run, and they might attack you if they learn that you were the one who ruined their plans.”

Jiang He frowned.

Has the Sky Demon Cult always been so... persistent?

Nonetheless, he grinned. “Would they dare to show up with you searching for them with an army?”

Of course, it would be even better if they actually did dare to show up.
