Chapter 680 - You Are Not Alone (2)
Meanwhile, Tang Moyu had taken a stroll in the garden while her children were still having their classes inside the mansion along with their friends. Following close behind her was Hunter, who had considerably grown so much, it surprised the empress how the tiny pup that Feng Tianyi asked her to take in a year ago would become such a lovely and adorable dog that he was now.
Hunter nudged her hand with his snout, trying to get her attention. Tang Moyu looked down and scratched the back of his ear.
"I know. It's almost time for them to be done with their classes." She answered.
With the dog's thicker and shinier coat, Hunter looked more intimidating now. He was a good companion whenever her children were gone for their classes and her husband busy with work.
Tang Moyu took this rare alone time to sort out her thoughts and how she should continue living, now that Tang Beixuan wouldn't be part of their future. It still hurt her to know that she would never see him or talk to him ever again. Not only that. She had been worried about Li Meili these past few days and couldn't help but wonder how she was doing in Beijing.
She was tempted to follow her there and take her back with her, but Tang Moyu didn't quite know what her best friend was thinking at this moment. Li Meili had left on a short notice. It didn't allow Tang Moyu to disagree with her decision.
She took a seat carefully as her right arm wasn't fully healed yet. A slice of cake and a refreshing drink were waiting for her on the table. Feng Tianyi must have arranged this for her. Her husband was overly protective and attentive towards her needs these days, but she couldn't really fault him at that.
Losing Tang Beixuan was like hitting rock bottom in her life, and Tang Moyu didn't think she would be able to pull herself up on her own if it wasn't for Feng Tianyi's help. He had been very considerate and patient with her, allowing her to take time to recover, not only physically but emotionally as well while he tended to the work she had left at the company and doing a thorough investigation on their car accident at the same time.
From the corner of her eye, she spotted Auntie Lu animatedly conversing with the other maids and Tang Moyu smiled to herself. She was sure she wouldn't be able to get used to living here in Feng Mansion if Auntie Lu hadn't come with them.
Tang Moyu was glad that her husband understood why she couldn't leave her nanny behind. Auntie Lu was the person whom she looked up to as a maternal figure in her life.
Just as she was done with her snack, her phone rang and the screen flashed Li Meili's name. Tang Moyu didn't waste any time and connected on the line.
"Meili." She heard a shuffling sound on the other end of the line. It was either Li Meili was still on her bed or she was dressing up for the day. Tang Moyu understood that her friend was still grieving over her brother's death and the only thing she could do now was to support Li Meili emotionally.
"Moyu, are you busy?" Li Meili asked. "I need to tell you something."
"No. You called just in time. Baobao and Little Star are still having their classes. What is it?" Li Meili wouldn't call her like this if nothing big happened. Tang Moyu swore that if her wretched parents forced Li Meili to marry, she would go to Beijing at once to retrieve her.
Li Meili sighed and unconsciously rubbed her midsection. It still felt unreal even for her to know that she was carrying a child. Neither she nor Tang Beixuan had talked about having a family together, so she was completely caught off guard when her brother told her about her pregnancy.
"Moyu, I'm pregnant." She told her best friend after a long silence between them.
Tang Moyu opened her mouth to say something, but she was effectively rendered speechless by Li Meili's confession. When Li Meili didn't hear her friend's response, she choked a sob and wiped the tears that managed to spill from her eyes.
It was only then that the empress recovered from her shock and understood what Li Meili was implying. The child was no doubt Tang Beixuan's and as to how far along Li Meili was, she had no idea.
"Are you certain?" She asked Li Meili. This was something she truly didn't expect to hear from her best friend's lips when Li Meili gave her a call. This would complicate things for sure.
"Y-yes…" Li Meili stuttered, not knowing what to do now. She wasn't sure if Zhang Jiren would agree with her proposition, but if he didn't, she needed to make a backup plan to protect her child from the Zhang family.
"Don't cry, Meili." Tang Moyu felt her eyes stung with tears. Oh, how horrible it was for her brother not to be able to see and meet his child with Li Meili. "We'll think of something. I know you are scared, but you have me, okay? We'll get through this together." She assured her best friend.
She would never forsake Li Meili, not just because she was carrying her brother's child, but because she was the only one who stayed with her through thick and thin. Even now that Tang Moyu was married and Li Meili was focusing on her career, she still looked forward to seeing her again.
Li Meili was relieved to hear Tang Moyu's words. She knew that she could rely on the empress. Now that Tang Beixuan was gone, she have to be strong not only for herself, but also for their child.
"Thank you, Moyu. Thank you." She continued to weep in silence, the pain of losing her beloved was just too fresh for her.
