Chapter 203 Better
Chapter 203 Better
[2450 GTs bonus chapter]
Professor Fembroise's eyes opened wide, but Sylas completely ignored the middle-aged couple, rushing toward the door.
At that moment, his visualization had already picked up on several agents rushing toward it. But there was a reason he had only used two kunai until now.
Just as one agent was kicking down the door with valiant momentum, Sylas' third kunai shot out from a planter. It had been hiding right behind a small tree in a grey pot, and instantly, it took the life of another agent.
Sylas yanked the door open with his telekinesis, just out of the range of its swing. Behind him, two guns hovered over each one of his shoulders.
BANG!
They opened fire.
One misfired, but the second shot a bullet right through the head of another agent.
The final two agents reached for their waists to pull out their guns, but by this point, Sylas had already sent the gun that misfired flying at one of them with over 200 Physical. It soared through the air so quickly that the man saw nothing but stars as his nose shattered beneath the impact.
The gun behind Sylas fired again, but the last female agent had already rolled and ducked for cover. She pulled her gun from her hip, ready to attack when an opportunity presented itself.
But that was when she froze.
She looked down at her chest, only to find a bloody hole running through her. Her eyes dimmed, and she slumped to the ground. Unfortunately for her, she hadn't been able to see the kunai that killed her first companion clearly. She was so worried about the gun that she didn't have time to deal with it.
At this point, the whole neighborhood had already been woken up, but Sylas just turned off the porch lights and closed the door behind him. Only then did he look toward Professor Fembroise and her husband.
At that moment, Mr. Fembroise stood before his wife, protecting her with a wary expression. Unfortunately, their son had the worst timing and had just come barreling down the stairs. It seemed the 14-year-old had little fear.
"Professor," Sylas nodded, "sorry I'm late."
Mr. Fembroise frowned, seeing that the young man knew his wife. But right now, the Professor was still quite shaken. This wasn't the first time Sylas had killed in front of her, but all things considered, there was a difference between killing her attempted rapist and two government agents who had, for all intents and purposes, been quite nice to them.
However, she was still a smart woman.
No matter how nice they had been, they had come in the dead of night. The conversation had started cordially… but what if things changed afterward?
She knew coercion when she saw it.
They knew where she lived, who her husband was, and how much her son meant to her.
This was the reality of it all.
"You've already packed, right?" Sylas asked.
She had hidden it from the government officials, but Sylas could see with a glance that everything upstairs was orderly and prepared for movement.
The Professor was sharp, so she knew that the moment Sylas said he would come to her, it would likely only end one way.
"… Yes…" she said after taking a breath.
"Good, then come with me."
Mr. Fembroise frowned, but Sylas spoke first.
"You can all come, including your son. I won't be moving you far either; the location is only a less than 10-minute car ride away. I also have someone who's willing to protect you as well."
"You…"
"Honey." Professor Fembroise pulled on her husband's hand, looking him in the eye.
In the end, her husband closed his eyes and exhaled a breath.
It was clear to Sylas that they had already had this conversation. Maybe coming a day later wasn't too bad after all.
Quickly, the family of three followed Sylas out.
Sylas noticed that the Professor's son kept looking at him as though he had questions he wanted to ask, but he ultimately held back.
…
Soon, Sylas had brought them to Carter's home. It was a simple matter. He just stole one of the government vehicles.
He had a guess that these government officials had been on an extremely top-secret mission. So long as these license plates were run, nothing would come back.
Only very few would know what they were up to because the optics of the government "abducting" scientists wouldn't go over very well at all.
Carter was a bit taken aback that he suddenly had to take care of an entire family, but he took it in stride. He had already accepted the benefits that Sylas had given him, so there was no going back already.
Thanks to Carter and his low Gene State, Sylas had already used up all the Genes he had left but the Trolls' and Alex's corpses. And, even then, they only had their Bronze Genes left.
Sylas didn't stay for long. He only remained long enough to make sure that they were acquainted, then he said that he would have to come back in a week to go over their next plans.
As Sylas left, his mind flashed with several thoughts.
He needed a plan to not only organize them better than he had but also link up with Cassarae and the others again.
But first, he needed to return to Paradise, so right now, his main goal should be getting through the barricade at the edge of the city. Leaving this place would be even more difficult now than ever before.
Although he had this government vehicle and a few new tricks up his sleeve, it was hard to tell if he'd be able to make it.
But what he did know was that he would have to do it fast. He had wasted too much time.
It was time to return to the Grimblades. When Sylas approached the edge of the city, though, he couldn't help but lament his bad luck. He had taken a different exit on purpose after studying a map that the Professor had given him.
But how had he managed to run into the same officer as he had when he entered?
