Chapter 362: Chapter 362 – Unfortunate RNG
A blur.
That was what Max could see from the new Infected's movement. It wasn't exaggerated to say that this enemy was the fastest one he encountered in this game.
Usually, one wouldn't be able to react to such a surprise attack. However, Max, high on adrenaline from fighting against Rocket earlier, moved his body faster before his brain even processed it. He immediately threw his knife to the ground and kicked it, blocking the scythe perfectly using the metal
Clang!
A spark flew as the knife and the scythe hand made contact. The Infected lost in terms of strength and faltered slightly.
— WHAT THE?!
— Is that even humanly possible? Like… DAMN!
— CLIP CLIP CLIP CLIP!
— This is absolute cinema!
— What the heck did you do, Breeze? No… What did you drink before this?! How can you do that?
— What happened?! I saw him throw the knife, but then it was on his sole, and he used it to block, and then a spark appeared! AAH
— That's peak! How? I mean… HE'S THE GOAT!
Not even he understood what happened. His body just moved and he did that impossible thing.
Bang bang!
Lily immediately fired 2 shots and hit the Infected's arm, making it cry in pain before disappearing into the hole once again.
"Are you okay?" She asked worriedly and ran toward him.
Only then did he snap out of his daydream and shout.
"Holy crap! What the heck?!"
— …?
— Did he just get confused about what he did?
— This is funny. Truly cinema!
— So it's just an unconscious reaction? Damn. Some wild instinct he has
— So funny yet so incredible
— CLIP CLIP CLIP CLIP CLIP!
— Clip man, no need to say it. I am on it already!
Ignoring the chat, Max looked at Lily urgently.
"What was that? Can you fill me in on the details?" He asked, taking the knife he had thrown to the ground earlier and putting his back against hers.
"Un. Chat said it's called Hider. It will only appear in a place we can't see and attack us, like what it did earlier." Lily explained.
"That's troublesome. But from what I saw earlier, it seems you can injure it."
"Handgun can kill it." She confirmed with a nod, "We just need to hit the head."
"Good to know." He chuckled as he looked at all the holes in the ceiling and the floor. "Only if it shows up, though. How about the loot? How much did you get?"
"Only 5 on this floor. I was attacked and in combat since then." She said, "Sorry."
"No, don't be. You have got enough loot already." He said but he didn't take his eyes off the holes, especially the one on the floor. "This one is tricky. Let's get out of here immediately. It's not worth the risk."
"Un."
After hearing her confirmation, Max immediately broke into a run. Lily closely followed behind him. As soon as they entered the dark corridor, a mad chuckle rang from behind.
"Kikikiki."
The Infected, Hider, showed itself and chased after them. However, it maintained a distance as Max occasionally looked behind to keep it away.
The stairs leading to the first floor were close to them. And when they reached it, he stopped and turned around.
"Jump, Lily. I will follow soon."
"Yes."
Lily jumped down immediately as soon as she confirmed it and looked up. There, she saw Hider crawling out of the wall near Max. Her eyes widened and she was about to scream.
"Br–"
"There."
That was unnecessary. Max deliberately made an opening for himself by asking Lily to jump. He knew that the Hider would attack from that side.
Bang!
The bullet went straight for Hider's body. It lodged inside and elicited a loud cry from it as it retreated into the fresh hole.
— OOOOHHH!
— That's a good body shoot
— NICE
— Now that's not just luck but a strategy!
— BLOOD! RED BLOOD! THAT INFECTED HAS RED BLOOD! Want it… The Blood God want it…
Still, an Infected wouldn't die easily unless their weak point was destroyed, their brain. And Max wasn't a fool who would pursue a useless fight unless he did a challenge.
So, he immediately jumped down and landed next to Lily.
"That will keep it away for a while. Let's get the hell out of here."
Lily was in disbelief, but she was also happy. She nodded and followed him out of the hospital by running at full speed.
Hider didn't attack them anymore once they were out. But they didn't stop running. They had spent too much time in the hospital. The night would arrive soon, in only 9 minutes.
"Can you go faster?" Max asked as he looked next to him. "There are more Infected than I thought. I prefer to return to the base by now before it's too late."
"Agreed." Lily said with a nod, "But, sorry… This is my fastest speed."
"Ah, no problem at all. We probably will be able to safely reach the shelter before night at this speed." He responded with a toothy smile. "And Lily… No apologizing. We're playing to have fun, so just enjoy it."
Looking at his smile, Lily couldn't help but smile back. "Un. I am having fun."
They continued their journey in silence, save for the few gunshots they had to release as a group of zombies appeared on their way.
When they reached the Shelter, Max immediately put all the loot into the chest. Lily also put her new loot, 3 Herbs, an Antidote, and another full mag of .99 mm bullets into it.
Following that, they sat on the bed and strategized.
"Hospital has 2 Infecteds, and one of them is troublesome while the other one is tough. We should avoid going there unless we need to. And even so, let's stay on the first floor unless we have the necessary equipment to defend ourselves."
"I also thought so." Lily agreed. "Warehouse looks better, but there is a Crawler. We can get more Plank and Wood from the first floor."
"That's right." He nodded.
"We have no more pressing matters besides our defensive equipment. We might as well just loot casually until the ninth day, gathering Scraps, and then get our equipment from that shady merchant. Of course, if we find police headquarters, that will be good. That's our source of ammo and grenades."
Lily listened quietly and nodded every now and then. She wasn't that experienced in this game yet and knew nothing besides what Max and her chat told her.
No matter the game, she didn't really care. Just playing alone made her happy. Exciting things made her happy. And more importantly…
'Hehe. Max is so cool when he's serious.'
She could enjoy the look of her boyfriend getting serious in the game, which she liked a lot.
That much was enough. But her image of him was soon shattered on the fourth day. They spent the day by looting Scraps, which made Max laugh like a madman.
"HAHAHAHA! Scraps again! I am too good. Scrap God has blessed me. Huahahaha!"
Lily looked at him with a blank gaze. She was happy earlier, but now she had a complicated feeling.
— Look at that. It's the gaze of someone who has lost hope
— LilyPixel be like: Is he truly my boyfriend? I thought he was a cool man who ran and jumped around. Ah, he can also run on the wall
