The next day.

After dinner, while waiting to watch the news with Lu Ting, Lu Rui directly asked her.

“Did you talk to your classmate about the project?”

Lu Ting nodded, “I mentioned it yesterday.”

Lu’s father, appearing contemplative, told her, “Yesterday, the project was finalized with our company, I’m not sure if your classmate’s dad played a role in this. You should give him a call and ask, and if he did help us, we’ll need to prepare a thank-you gift.”

“I’ll ask him right now.” Lu Ting took out her phone and dialed her classmate in front of her father.

The classmate’s name was Jiang Huai, one of her admirers.

However, Lu Ting didn’t like him, despising his lack of a distinguished family background unworthy of her, but she still enjoyed the feeling of being pursued and kept him on the hook.

Yesterday, when she asked him for help, she detested even the way she feigned flirtation.

Jiang Huai was so fond of her, wanting to impress her, that working hard to accomplish this task wasn’t impossible.

Thus, once the call connected, Lu Ting said right away, “Jiang Huai, the thing I mentioned yesterday, you managed to handle it so quickly?”

The boy on the other end was utterly confused. He had only mentioned it to his dad this morning, and to have it resolved by noon seemed too fast, didn’t it?

Although puzzled, eager to help his goddess, he said, “It’s just a small matter, I told you it would be no problem.”

Hearing his acknowledgment, Lu Ting felt relieved, her voice cheerful and gentle, “Thank you, I’ll treat you to a meal someday.”

Jiang Huai, initially hesitant, cast aside all doubts upon hearing he could dine alone with his goddess, and joyfully agreed.

Lu Ting hung up the phone, looked at her father, and smiled proudly, “Dad, my classmate said it was just a small matter, not to worry about it.”

Lu Rui felt reassured, realizing it was indeed Lu Ting’s friend who had helped, his eyes gleaming with amusement, “Tingting, you also played a part in this,”

Lu Ting smiled sweetly, “We’re family after all, I’m happy I could help the company.”

Lu Rui’s eyes filled with satisfaction for Lu Ting, thinking he hadn’t raised his daughter in vain. He then instructed, “Ask your classmate when he has time to come over for a meal at our house.”

Thrilled to have impressed her family, Lu Ting quickly made another call without thinking.

Before she could even speak, the boy on the other end dropped a bombshell.

“Lu Ting, I’m sorry, I just asked my dad, and it turns out he wasn’t involved with the project at all. Tenghui had already decided to cooperate with your family.”

“…”

Lu Ting barely managed to control her expression, her fingers gripping the phone so tightly they turned white.

Though irate internally, she maintained a sweet facade, “I see, well, thanks anyway.”

Jiang Huai, initially guilty for taking credit he didn’t deserve, replied foolishly to her soft voice, “If you need anything else in the future, just ask me.”

Lu Ting’s face bore a smile, but inside she cursed, “Damn you, you’re such a liability.”

“How did it go?” Lu’s father asked Lu Ting.

“He said…”

Lu Ting met her father’s gaze, her mouth faltering on the truth, she fidgeted with her skirt, smiling, “He said not to worry about it, and with school starting soon, he’ll be busy with his senior year, probably won’t have time.”

Lu’s father, unsuspecting, expressed his disappointment, “That’s too bad, see what your classmate likes and help us buy a gift for him.”

Lu Ting was torn for a moment, her vanity overcoming her guilt, a faint smile on her lips, “Dad, leave it to me.”

Just then, Qiao Yun came downstairs, dressed in shorts, long pants, with her soft black hair tied up in a bun.

So obedient, so cute and pretty.
