Chapter 334: Ascended Talent
William tried out the Seal Element on himself, finding that the X-Rank Element was able to suppress his physical abilities by almost sixty percent, finally allowing him to move at his previous speed without risk of inciting another Heavenly Tribulation.
Even better, he only needed to suppress himself by forty percent, meaning there was still room in case he accidentally grew stronger again.
Accidentally increasing my strength. I wonder how Carl would react to hearing that I have to suppress myself to stay in this World. William laughed.
He missed his friend, who he hadn’t seen in over three months since setting out to map the Azures Continent. Other than making his pink room less pink, William hadn’t visited the man at all.
Charlotte, Yuming, Tia, and Gunther were all there too, probably still training on their Elements. He planned to take a break from mapping to visit them soon, but there was one more thing he wanted to do.
System, how should I refine this Blood Bead?
-With Alchemy, of course.
But...
William wasn’t as confident as the System. When he looked at the Blood Bead, the Alchemy Talent told him it could be refined in more than one way, but none of them would completely eliminate the negative emotions that belonged to the original Demon.
They would only reduce the effects, and there was no mention to what would happen upon consumption.
-If you completely purify the Demon’s Blood Bead, it wouldn’t be a Blood Bead anymore. There aren’t any alternatives in your current state.
William nodded, proceeding with the most suitable refinement process that the Alchemy Talent described.
First, the Blood Bead was placed in an empty cauldron that he then filled with his own blood. This turned out to be the most difficult process, since William had to affect himself with multiple debuffs of his various Elements before cutting himself with the Abyssal Weapon Shifter.
The Blood Bead remained at the bottom while William stirred the cauldron, heating it up just a few degrees above standard room temperature with the Fire Element.
As the Blood Bead absorbed William’s blood, a small demon began to form inside, which William promptly pulverized with a burst of intense Fire Magic. Even though it was highly resistant to Fire, the Demon that formed had only reached the Qi Refinement Realm in strength— it wasn’t a match regardless.
The partially synchronized Blood Bead fell into the cauldron once again, while William poured more of his blood inside to force it to reach its peak. As the demons formed one by one, their appearance resembled William more and more until the final one was a spitting image of him, though red in color.
He killed the William Demon just like the others, then scooped up the Blood Bead as quickly as possible and consumed it in one go. This part was crucial, since William needed to make sure as few negative emotions could return to the Blood Bead as possible.
With the Blood Bead still in William’s mouth, he spent one million Potential Points and asked the System to upgrade the Recovery Talent.
Waves of negative emotions overwhelmed William, despite his lightning-quick consumption of the Blood Bead. The stages of grief played backwards in William’s mind, starting with acceptance. His mind chose to accept the thoughts and emotions of the previous demon, whose presence was still partially existent.
The Demon’s memories flooded into his brain, replaying scenes of an old Cultivator that had traveled through the depths of Hell for dozens of years, searching for a way back to Efretta where his family was waiting for his return.
He started as a weak Minor Demon, with little idea of who or where he was, but with an intense anger that wouldn’t subside no matter what. He often fought with other Minor Demons, consuming each of them one by one until he advanced into a Lesser Demon.
He recovered some of his memories at that point, and his anger lessened, but he had also become much more powerful than he was even in his previous life. He found himself virtually unkillable, regenerating from every injury in an instant, while possessing combat strength well above his Cultivation.
That was another thing. As a Demon, the man discovered that he had no need to Cultivate, because even breathing would absorb the natural Spirit Qi and trigger breakthroughs that had no Tribulation. It was like a cheat, one that made him desire even more power.
So he went out. And he killed.
And he killed. And he killed. And he killed.
Until there was no one left to kill, and he had finally broke the shackles of being a Lesser Demon. At this point, the leader of Hell, Hel, approached him. He was asked to become a General, to lead Hel’s forces across the domain of Hell and recover some of his lost territory.
It was a noble cause, but the man refused, saying he needed to visit his family first.
And so, Hel accepted, but he warned that the man might not like what he finds on Efretta. He showed the man a way out of Hell, and even opened a path for him to return, but it was as he expected.
The moment he returned, he found his memories clouded once again, and his soul taken over by the vengeful spirit that was the old him. A tear streamed from William’s eye as the man’s receding consciousness wallowed in regret that he hadn’t had a chance to see his family.
Before the stage of Anger could arrive, William suppressed the Blood Bead with his willpower and ended the Talent upgrade. It was but a simple task for someone with the X-Rank Mind Talent, but he was still slightly affected.
-The Blood Bead has tampered with your emotions: -6 Humanity
William frowned at first when he saw the message, but the Recovery Talent’s information made his smile return as fast as it had gone.

More question marks?!? What’s the point of giving me resistance if I don’t know what I’m resistant to?! William complained inwardly.
