Chapter 969 The Cause of the Fall (2)
Chapter 969 The Cause of the Fall (2)
'Higher Being…' Kyran contemplated in his mind while he continued to flee from The Emperor.
Conversations, things Kyran discovered from the tablets, and his own research came flashing through his mind as he delved into the topic of the Higher Being.
In the Human plane, few were aware of the existence of the Higher Being. This was especially true with Kyran, who was only privy to news and information about combat and clan matters during his early years.
The first time Kyran heard about the Higher Being's existence was from an off-handed remark from his godmother, Anette. It was also through her remark that he discovered the existence of the Fates.
In any case, Kyran learned more about the Higher Being through the tablets.
Surprisingly— no, maybe it was unsurprising at that point— the Higher Being was always mentioned whenever the First War of the Sovereigns was highlighted.
To be honest, Kyran initially thought that the Higher Being was among the Ancient race. However, the more he read the tablets, the more he realized that the Higher Being was not an Ancient but was the one who grew jealous of them.
The Higher Being particularly grew jealous of the Ancients' Array and Magic Knowledge. There were bits and pieces of information on the tablets that Kyran could not fully understand because they were only copies that foretold about the Ancients creating something that would change The Realm.
This had been one of the main reasons Kyran wanted to see the original tablets Axil and her faction possessed so he could find out what the Ancients were trying to create. He was not entirely without any clue as to what they tried to create. The story Caelan told him, more or less, provided clues as to what it might have been. Another point Kyran had considered was what Layla told him.
After Kyran heard Caelan's story, he decided to lay everything down before trying to figure out how they were all connected. Now that he had read most of the content on the tablets, he was beginning to see what was drawn in the canvas he was using to fill in all the information he had gathered.
Kyran's initial guess was that the Dark Sage might be connected to the one who wrote the Lament of the King. His guess was further amplified by why Layla wanted to gather her army and participate in the war.
Contrary to what Kyran and True Void initially believed, Layla was not gathering an army to participate in the War of the Sovereigns. Although she still planned to participate in a war, it was different from the latter.
Layla wanted to wage a war in the Higher Realm. Her reason was simple.
Revenge.
Layla had not told Kyran why she wanted to take revenge. She agreed to tell him everything once he took her to the Higher Realm and helped out with her revenge.
Kyran had not agreed yet. But Layla was already sure that he would accept. After all, the answers he seeks about the truth of what happened in the past that led to the split of The Realm and the origin of the Ancient Magic could only be found there.
Layla was not wrong to think this way, but she did not anticipate Axil and her faction would have gathered tablets that recorded the lost history of the Lower Realm.
Still, the tablets were incomplete, and although Kyran could have a rough guess of what might have happened in the past, so long as he gathered enough reliable information, he did not need to gather all the tablets.
Of course, Kyran was still interested in going to the Higher Realm because that was where he could settle the matter of the War of the Sovereigns.
Going back to the matter of the Dark Sage and the Higher Being, from the information Kyran had gathered thus far, the former was definitely related to the King of the Ancients— or the person who wrote the Lament of the King. This meant that the Dark Sage was an Ancient. As for the Higher Being, Kyran did not know what his role was in The Realm, but since he was the peak existence then, so much so that he seemed to be the only one who could move the Fates, he was the one who grew jealous of the Ancients and decided to annihilate them.
Unfortunately, the Higher Being underestimated the military prowess of the Ancients. Even if the latter were alone in that war, while the Higher Being mobilized the other races or at least all the races who were willing to fight under his banner, the Ancients managed to defend against them.
At that time, there were races who also stayed neutral. Those races were the Dragons, the Faes, and the High Elves.
Kyran did not know how these races managed to stay neutral. The tablets had little information about them. Nonetheless, because of the things he learned about the Spirits and how their plane fell, as well as how the Dragons went to the Lower Realm and hid in the Human plane, Kyran wondered if the other races who joined the Higher Being's war came after them afterward.
Kyran did not know what happened to the Higher Being. From what he had gleaned, the latter was still alive. But where could the Higher Being be if The Emperor was the known peak existence in the Higher Realm?
The Emperor had just mentioned that the Higher Being would definitely be after Kyran if he knew he had the Shaiha and the Draconic core. From this, Kyran already confirmed the latter was alive and might even be in the Lower Realm if The Emperor was the peak existence in the Higher Realm. But if this was true, then why had he not done anything until now to find the Shaiha or any of the Ancient Magic Cores?
This was one of the questions that bothered Kyran.
Don't get him wrong. He did not want the Higher Being to come after him. He only found it strange that the Higher Being had not done anything.
It made it seem as if the existence of the Higher Being had become similar to the 'Dark Sage' in the Human plane, which was used to scare little children to sleep.
Kyran furrowed his brows as he continued to evade The Emperor's magic attacks while sorting through the information he had.
If he included what The Emperor said just then about the Higher Being coming after him because of the Shaiha and the Draconic core, Kyran guessed that these two might have been what the Ancients tried to create in the past.
The reason the Higher Being annihilated them was likely because he coveted these items.
But the thought of the Draconic core being an item did not sit well with Kyran. n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
If the Four Ancient Magic Cores were physical items that others could acquire, then how did they manifest inside the bodies of chosen humans in the Human plane? How could it then be passed on?
There were still a lot of things that did not make sense to Kyran. But he wanted to take every new information he would get in stride so as not to affect how he dealt with other important matters.
With this in mind, Kyran resolved to endure The Emperor's pursuit. He knew the latter would eventually exhaust himself and stop to rest.
If the Emperor had enough potions or pills to sustain his stamina, then Kyran would have to endure further. Fortunately, Kryan's body had been enhanced, and now that he could use more than 70% of the Draconic magic, he was confident of his stamina.
Meanwhile, while The Emperor continued to pursue his target, he sensed the control he had over the Sovereign of Bulwark disappearing completely. His expression distorted in annoyance. But in the end, he did not return there because his priority was still the acquisition of the Heart of the Cosmos and the Draconic Core.
Back in Somuli, after Alastor caught sight of Nachum, he helped the latter break free from The Emperor's control.
Nachum had already recovered 60% of his control, and with Alastor's assistance, it did not take long for him to be freed.
After that, Alastor requested Nachum's assistance in connecting with the people who were 'keeping Kyran safe.'
Nachum did not understand what Alastor meant, to be honest. Because, as far as he was concerned, Kyran was the one keeping everyone safe. There was no big or powerful figure behind him.
At least, not that Nachum knew of.
Thinking back on it, could that Ames person be considered someone keeping Kyran safe?
Maybe?
Nachum used his abilities to delve into other's pasts to check if Alastor was trustworthy enough. After confirming that the latter was the leader of the Coven and knowing what the Coven did in the Lower Realm, Nachum allowed him to enter Somuli.
The two then went to the Kingdom of Cretea since that was the last known location of 'Nar.' Nachum knew Cyneah was there too, and having her mediate with the people who knew Kyran was better than Nachum going to them directly. After all, he barely knew Ames and the others. Would they believe him if he suddenly told them that Kyran was in danger?
Nachum was overthinking it. Ames and the others would definitely believe him since he was someone that Kyran trusted. Besides, even without Nachum telling them what happened outside, they sensed something amiss, more or less.
This was especially true with Cyneah and True Void.
