'Did you... level up?' Noah asked Lilith mentally as he recovered from the pain he had just experienced. He had never before felt so much pain in his life. They say you only value something you have after you lose it, and that was exactly what Noah was feeling right now. He had never valued his breathing so much; he had never valued the air he felt passing through his lungs in such a sweet and fluid way.

'Definitely from now on, I will go and at least once a day breathe calmly and thank the opportunity that I have to breathe every day without any difficulty. Perhaps in the future I may even be able to do something to help people who have diseases that hinder their respiratory system.

The only thing Noah had paid attention to when he looked at Lilith's status screen the first time he had seen it was her level. He felt that enjoying the feeling of being able to breathe freely again was much more important than anything else that he, or Lilith could receive now.

Lilith clearly shared this thought with Noah, as she, like him, having taken the fangs out of Noah's wrist, breathed in the air as if it were the most delicious thing she could do as well. She didn't, however, need to look at the statistics screen to know what she had gained by leveling up, since she had already used the skill instinctively.

Ignoring the surprised expression the other Blessed were giving him, Noah turned his attention to Lilith's status window and read it again.

'You really did level up, congratulations,' Noah mentally said to Lilith, confirming that she really was level 02 while stroking her small head that was still struggling to breathe normally.

Turning his attention back to the window once again, Noah finally read Lilith's ability that had been unlocked. He was a little disappointed, as he thought she was going to unlock her ability which was sealed and get a new ability when she went up to level 02, just like he had, but maybe that would be asking too much, since as soon as he saw what the new ability she had received did, Noah was very excited.

At that time Noah had thought that, somehow, someone was controlling time and either that person had accelerated Noah's perception of time, or had reduced the Boss's perception of time, but when he saw that the Boss was following him with his eyes for every move he made, he dismissed that theory immediately. It didn't make sense for the Boss to be able to react that way if time for him was slowed down or if Noah's time was accelerated.

Since Noah was so engrossed in the insane pain he was feeling, he didn't think about it for long and just pierced the Boss's two eyes with his blade to end the life of that dangerous monster at once. He was externally grateful for being able to do this, and was internally grateful to whoever had helped him.

But seeing Lilith's statistics screen now in front of his eyes, Noah could understand where the help he had gotten had come from. It had nothing to do with the control of time, but with the control of a law similar to time, the control of space. Noah knew that these two laws were very powerful, powerful enough to make anyone with a skill related to that much stronger than their peers.

It was very rare that the Goddess of Time or the God of Space would bless someone, but if someone were lucky enough to be accepted by one of these gods and receive a Blessing, regardless of the Blessing that person received, the chance that that person could invade much higher level Fortresses then their rank was very high. A person who managed to slow down a monster's perception of time, even though he might have Rank D strength, sometimes received invitations to participate in Rank B Fortress raids, just because of how useful such a Blessing would be, since in battle against an extremely powerful Boss, any delay in its perception of time, however small, would make a big difference.

This level of power and rarity was the reason why Blessed with Blessings related to time and space were so valued. Noah could be considered as highly Blessed with a Blessing derived from space, since he was able to teleport wherever he wanted in an instant, and this ability alone had already proved to everyone how powerful it could be in anyone's hand. If Noah didn't have that ability, he doubted that they would have been able to endure so much in this Fortress without any death on the part of their team.

They entered this Fortress prepared to die, or to lose the life of a companion, but because of the pleasant surprise of Noah's Blessing, no one had yet died. But while they were fighting the Boss, the possibility of dying or losing a mate to death came back to their minds as a real possibility, a tragedy just waiting to happen.

Fortunately, Noah once again used a strange skill and managed to save the day, but apparently for them, the price of that ability was very high, as he started to squirm in pain on the floor soon after.

'I finally feel better,' Lilith said in a weak voice, but it was easily possible to distinguish her happiness at having leveled up. 'I'm sorry about that Noah. I didn't want to cause you so much pain...' she said with her happiness disappearing from her voice, giving way to a concern for the friend she had made these past days.

'It's okay Lilly. It's over; I'm not in pain anymore.' Noah said, trying to look calm and shrug off that it was nothing, but his voice betrayed him, since it was possible to see that he still had to work a little to speak, even though through the mental link they had. 'But why did you suddenly do that?' Noah asked curiously.

Hearing Noah's question, Lilith, who had been nicknamed by Noah as Lilly, blurred her vision for a moment, as if she were struggling to remember, but before Noah screamed at her to stop, afraid she would wear herself out a lot like she had the last time she did it at the monster shop, she regained her focus and responded as if nothing had happened. 'I don't particularly know. For some reason I felt an abysmal urge to bite you as soon as I reached the 200 exp points needed to level up. It was as if my instincts had sparked a voice in me, and that voice was screaming in my ear, pressing me to bite you if something bad would happen. I tried to resist, but at some point I became distracted, and when I realized what had happened, I already had my fangs stuck in your wrist.'

Hearing what she had said, Noah stopped to think and it was fairly similar to the thing he had already concluded was the reason as soon as he fully regained consciousness. He believed that Lilly had simply lost control of her own body and bitten him to get some kind of nutrient needed to level up through his body. 'Maybe this is because of the system?' Noah wondered, thinking that this was possibly an acceptable answer.

They had tested Noah's system together, both the functions he had available, as well as the functions that Lilly had in her 'system', which they ended up calling her 'sub-system', since she was unable to operate system in the cases she wasn't close to Noah, basically making him like a server host, which she would only be able to use if she were in range of the host.

With that, they discovered that Noah's system was unique, and created a doubt as to how he would transfer things to Lilly when she achieved something. They thought it would just transfer through the air like a wifi network, but during today's battle this had proved wrong, since when she leveled up, Lilly had to make a "wired contact" using her fangs to get in physical contact with Noah apparently to "download updates" for her system. In other words, she needed to connect with Noah's system to receive rewards for leveling up and unlocking her ability.

Noah was concerned. He didn't want to feel a pain like that again, even if it was for his friend to level up, but he had no choice if that was the only alternative. He wasn't going to stop her from leveling up, since with the contract they had made, Lilly's strength to grow was almost the same as his own strength to grow, since they would always be together, and the strength of one was the strength of another.

'Damn it Lilly, you're starting to look like a vampire, you know? Haha ha,' Noah laughed.

Lilith looked curiously at Noah, not understanding the context of his comparison.

Seeing that she didn't understand, Noah explained, 'Vampires are beings that need the blood of people to survive. To get that blood, they bite humans in the neck and suck the blood out of their prey. Maybe I should call you a little vampire?'

'Don't compare me to those filthy monsters. I am a noble demon.' Lilith responded with an arrogance that she had never shown before.

Noah stared blankly at Lilith with a surprised look, with his mouth practically wide open. He had never seen his friend talk like this before; it was like she was a completely different person who was talking to him now, instead of the cute Lilly who was always wrapped around his arm, laughing at the stupid jokes he made.

Even Lilith was confused by what she just said. At the same time that she felt that it was something completely strange, something she had never said, and she had no idea why she said that, deep down she felt that she had not said anything wrong and just declared a fact as she had done countless times before.

The two apparently stared at each other looking for answers from each other, but since Lilith said she had no idea what just happened, Noah wouldn't know much less where her spontaneous pride had come from.

'What the fuck was that?' (2x)
