Shen Ye looked around, gradually becoming more vigilant.
Grim Reaper?
"Hey, big skeleton, I've got a question for you," Shen Ye whispered.
"Go ahead," the big skeleton's voice answered.
"Are there Grim Reapers in Hell?" Shen Ye asked.
"Grim Reaper? No, death is a rule, and divine spirits are the incarnations of the world's power's wisdom, completely different domains - a 'Grim Reaper' generally refers to some kind of symbolism or metaphor," the big skeleton replied with extensive knowledge.
Shen Ye fell into contemplation.
At that moment, the big skeleton changed the subject, whispering:
"The Shadow of Death Tribe is very arrogant; I can't fathom why they would just take a few Bone Coins from you," it said secretly.
"They do appear to be quite haughty," Shen Ye conceded.
"These guys only recognize bloodline and heritage—the General Tazweil must be no simple character; you need to be careful moving forward," the big skeleton cautioned.
"But I am his Scout Team Leader, feeding off his table; I just need to do the job well," responded Shen Ye.
The Skeleton Bird kept flying forward.
Suddenly.
A streak of light appeared and moved swiftly towards him.
Clang!
Amidst the loud noise.
Shen Ye blocked with his sword in one hand and pressed on the void with the other, swiftly retreating dozens of meters before steadying himself.
He looked around.
Unbeknownst to him, the Skeleton Bird had brought him onto a rather secluded path.
There were hardly any fleeing undead souls around.
But then.
One after another, Death Shadow Knights appeared around him, spreading out and subtly cutting off all of Shen Ye's retreat paths.
"Aren't you guys good friends with the General?" Shen Ye asked.
"General Tazweil is an exceedingly wealthy fallen angel who wields great influence. We assume you must be carrying a lot of valuable things," one of the Death Shadow Knights said.
"I get it, you want to kill someone familiar," Shen Ye sighed.
"Hell has lost all semblance of order. If you're sensible, hand over all your treasures. Otherwise, we are experts in tormenting," the lead Death Shadow Knight said.
"What if I say no?" Shen Ye replied.
"Then your death will be extremely slow—trust me, even if your soul longs to report to Purgatory, we won't let you go, but will torment you eternally," said the Death Shadow Knight.
Suddenly, a Death Shadow Knight appeared behind Shen Ye, raising a lance, and thrusting it with force.
Shen Ye seemed completely unaware.
The lance stopped just inches from his back.
A slender, fair hand grasped the lance.
Yun Ni!
"Damn it, don't you know how to defend yourself?" she cried out in anger.
"Huh? Aren't you supposed to be too weak to lift a finger?" Shen Ye asked in surprise.
Yun Ni had no retort.
If this guy got pierced, she would have to endure a hundred times more pain than him.
And not to mention those Death Shadow Knights that specialize in torture.
She couldn't just stand by and watch!
—He knew she couldn't abandon him!
Yun Ni, grinding her teeth in frustration, simply flew up and let out a piercing scream.
Invisible sharp spectral assaults emanated from her, sweeping across the area like ghosts.
The Death Shadow Knights didn't even have the chance to resist, nor did their battle armor provide any defense; they trembled, turning into a mist of blood, utterly crushed.
In a succession of mournful howls,
The Shadow of Death Knight Order perished.
Only the Skeleton Bird was left, grasped from a distance by Yun Ni's empty hand and pressed against Shen Ye's shoulder.
"Compliant?" Yun Ni asked.
The Skeleton Bird nodded its head as if pecking at grains.
Having done all this, Yun Ni turned her head to look at Shen Ye, her eyes full of anger.
But Shen Ye's gaze was particularly calm.
"What are you looking at?" he asked.
"You feel proud, being able to enslave me, right?" Yun Ni said.
"Trash," Shen Ye spat out a word.
"Me?" Yun Ni scoffed.
"Yeah," Shen Ye tilted his head to look at her, "How many people from our world have you killed? How many times have you forced me to take a gamble with you? Do you really think I would let you go?"
Yun Ni put away her cold laugh and said indifferently,
"It's the natural law, survival of the fittest, the strong get everything, and the weak die like lambs."
"Bullshit," Shen Ye said.
He drew the Night Hidden Sword and lightly cut a blood mark into his palm.
The pain immediately followed.
But his expression became even more calm, and his eyes even showed a bit of satisfaction.
Because the moment the blade's edge cut through his palm, Yun Ni let out a low growl full of pain and directly tumbled to the ground, clutching her hand, repeatedly banging her head on the floor.
—She was enduring a hundredfold of the pain.
Shen Ye turned his head toward the distance.
The winds of Hell blew across the desolate land.
The blood-stained armors left behind by the Death Shadow Knights rattled in the wind.
In the wind, his voice rose again:
"Yunshan Port has fallen, countless people have died."
"The body you're using now also comes from an innocent girl. Every time I see you, I am reminded of all this."
"Damn it."
His gaze suddenly became as sharp as a blade, and his voice carried a hint of killing intent:
"If one day I become stronger than you—"
"I'll think of a way to earn some money, buy a house, play games every day, invite some friends for mountain climbing, jogging, or maybe chasing girls when I'm free."
"You bastards, once you get strong, start killing this, slaughtering that, and destroying others' lives."
He took a deep breath and roared:
"Are you all insane!"
The Night Hidden Sword was raised high—
The fear of death enveloped Yun Ni, and she screamed:
"If you kill me, what makes you different from me!"
But the sword fell without hesitation.
I'm going to die!
"Your teacher said I still have uses! I can't die!"
The sword stopped at her fair neck.
Taking advantage of the moment, Yun Ni clutched the blade with both hands, completely disregarding her cut palms, just striving to lift the blade and prevent it from slashing further.
"Chaos Spirit Light captured me, demanding that I stay by your side day and night, using this body to tempt you, and if you did anything out of line, it would sever everything between you and Song Yinchen!"
"Don't think it has ever helped you—it's an ultimate law of the universe, with a way of thinking different from anyone else!"
"Now, separated by a world, I dare to tell you its thoughts!"
Yun Ni spoke rapidly,
"Your teacher didn't kill me because he wanted to use me to temper you."
"He's too busy, so you can consult me about any combat and knowledge you need, and I must respond and guide you."
"The souls of those I have killed were all given to your teacher."
"He has already sent those souls to transmigration."
"——Don't kill me!"
Yun Ni gasped for breath hurriedly, suddenly spouted a mouthful of blood, rolled to the ground, and fell into a coma.
The sword finally halted.
A large Skeleton flew out, came forward to inspect carefully, and nodded,
"Indeed, she's been tormented by the Chaos Spirit Light until she was hanging by a thread, then she barely used that powerful move, completely depleting her Divine Power, causing her to fall into a coma."
"Are you sure?" Shen Ye asked.
"Divine Power isn't something you can fake, I'm very familiar with it," the large Skeleton replied.
"... After we return, I'll ask my teacher, and then I'll know the truth," Shen Ye said.
He flicked the iron chain on his arm.
Yun Ni was immediately reeled in.
Shen Ye turned his gaze towards the Skeleton Bird on his shoulder.
"Please follow me, I will take you to General Tazweil."
The Skeleton Bird trembled as it spoke.
"Then lead the way," Shen Ye said.
Once again, they set off on the road.
Shen Ye followed the Skeleton Bird, advancing all the way.
After a little over an hour,
"That's the place!"
The Skeleton Bird shrieked in midair.
Shen Ye looked in the direction pointed by its wings and indeed saw the familiar carriage.
A streak of light suddenly attacked.
Crack.
The Skeleton Bird was shattered to pieces.
A few scouts charged forward on their steeds, calling out as they approached,
"Who dares to covet General Tazweil's convoy?"
Shen Ye was pleasantly surprised and called out loudly,
"It's me, Baxter!"
The surrounding Undead Souls all looked over.
"It's the Scout Team Leader, Mr. Zhong Ba!"
Someone shouted.
The crowd escorted him back to the convoy.
The voice of General Tazweil soon came from within the carriage,
"I heard from Green that you were scouting the surroundings, what's the actual situation?"
Shen Ye immediately realized what had happened.
Perhaps Werewolf Green had noticed he wasn't in the room, and thought, being the Scout Team Leader, he naturally went to scout.
So Green must have said so.
——But Green was already dead.
However, he did genuinely scout the surroundings, and there was no chance of being exposed.
"Green didn't make it out, Sir," Shen Ye said gravely.
"How is my territory?" General Tazweil asked.
"It's all been leveled to the ground——and not just ours, all of Lord Isaac's territory has been leveled as well," Shen Ye reported.
"Oh?" General Tazweil's interest was piqued, "You went to check on Isaac's side too? Does his place not have a single living thing left either?"
"There's a lake——even the aquatic Undead Souls in the lake are destroyed, the whole domain is empty, it seems no one has survived," recounted Shen Ye.
"Any other news?" General Tazweil pressed.
"Those strange creatures in the sky have all vanished, I guess we're temporarily safe," Shen Ye stated.
After a pause,
General Tazweil sighed with relief and said,
"Good, you truly are diligent and responsible——what you told me matches the latest intelligence I just received."
The way the people around looked at Shen Ye changed instantly, filled with newfound respect.
In the face of such a terrifying event, the Scout Team Leader really was reliable!
"General, now that I have returned, please command me as you wish!"
Shen Ye stated.
"It's alright, come here, I have something to ask you."
"Yes, Sir."
"When you went to Cannon Branding Castle, just who exactly were you going to see?"
The General's tone was very serious and formal.
Shen Ye found himself in a tight spot.
But he certainly couldn't say he was looking for a Divine Spirit, that would be too conspicuous.
What should he say?
"Reporting to the General——"
Shen Ye hesitated for a moment, a thought coming to mind.
Yes.
After all, he was now the vampire Baxter.
——The same Baxter who went into battle with his brothers, then was blasted to smithereens by a Human Race Magic Crystal Cannon.
"I had arranged with my brothers to meet at Cannon Branding Castle."
"——I was going to see them."
"Your actual brothers?" General Tazweil asked.
"Yes, General," Shen Ye replied.
"Are your brothers as outstanding as you are?" the General asked with interest.
Shen Ye listed them off,
"My younger brother San'er Baxter is an assassin with an iron head and arms, he only chose to be an assassin because he was broke, I think he's actually a warrior;"
"My fourth brother, Fourth Brother Baxter, is a Fire Mage, he's generous and honorable;"
"My fifth brother, Long Wu Baxter, is a Frost Death Knight;"
"My sixth brother, Nix Baxter, is proficient in spatial magic, but since he's broke, he only knows Invisibility so far;"
"My seventh brother, Sang Biao Baxter, is a rebel, but that's all in the past, in any case——"
"Apart from the eldest leading us, we all died."
As he finished,
Shen Ye suddenly noticed a faint light appearing before his eyes, coalescing into words:
"Congratulations."
"For your consecutive actions in Hell, along with your formal narration just now, a new term is about to take root."
"Make a mark in Hell, and you shall become heroes sung by many, and the infinite Law Realm Source Power will acknowledge your epic feats, thereby condensing into a new Hell-exclusive term:"
"Vampire Kid."
