Chapter 156: Nightly Healing, And Reward?
While we were waiting for the clock to strike midnight, I proceeded to do something that I always wanted to do when my Valtherion blood got successfully cultured into my body.
"I'm ready." Inside the cabin, with both of her Aetherstride prosthetics removed, Verina sat on a chair with fervent anticipation. "Please, administer the miraculous water onto my body whenever you're sure of your decision."
"... You're making it as if we're going to do something regrettable with your body."
Most of the bastioneers were currently busy with their own task, so not many of them would notice any detailed matter regarding this impromptu meeting with all of my confidantes present.
And if that wasn't enough, I had already ordered Kuzunoha to turn this building into an isolated space.
"I thought the prosthetic looks cool on you," Lupina commented, comfortably being placed on the table in front of Verina.
"So you're saying that I should be disabled just to look cooler," Verina replied with her signature deadpan.
"What kind of a disabled person who can fly around and move faster than Bloodhound!?" Lupina exclaimed.
"By that definition, you're regarded to have a healthy and fully-able body if you fly faster than a Bloodhound if we hurl you into the air with Narcissus' portable ballista." Kuzunoha whispered right into Lupina's ear.
Lupina shuddered, drenched in cold sweat as she felt the breath of a maniacal mad scientist who had been eyeing her as a precious specimen since the time she was revived into this world.
"If you ever feel threatened, Lupina. Feel free to shout my name as loud as you can." I smiled as gently as I could.
"If that's the case, I only need to sew her mouth when she is rendered unconscious~" Kuzunoha sadistically giggled. "It is easy to snatch her without anyone knowing, after all~"
"Hiikh!!"
Lupina's impending doom aside, the result of this will tell us if my Valtherion blood was truly capable of regenerating lost organs and body parts.
As such, whether Verina's legs were restored or not would greatly help our understanding of why Lupina was still a singular talking head after being drenched with gallons of my precious blood—to the point where Kuzunoha attempted to scrape the floor to collect it for herself.
My left palm open, I held my knife and pointed the edge of the blade toward my skin. But before I finalized the cut, I eyed the surroundings, only found multiple concerned face.
Even Verina's eternal poker face starts to noticeably crumble.
At this moment, I was glad that they were thinking of my safety. It was also quite adorable of them to be scared of me having a single cut.
But then I started to retrace my gaze to my palm. There, the wound from when I chucked my blood waterfall onto Lupina's face was still visibly gold.
I might feel like I had an endless supply of blood, but my own wound won't get healed immediately if I kept bloodletting myself.
It might be because this body no longer had the scars and wounds from my earlier days, since it had all been healed when the Valtherion Blood was made foreign to my own vessel—making a single cut wound look prominent.
I also could no longer make my own blood become foreign to my body again, since Kuzunoha told me that it had developed some sort of immunity to that certain spell, preventing me from doing the same trick.
I tried re-reading the description of my blood.
[Valtherion's Blood: The dormant gene of the Valtherion race fuses with the host, granting them the ability to produce an all-healing liquid through their bodily liquid. This substance can heal any wound, cure illness, and even regenerate lost limbs, making the host a living source of miraculous recovery.
The genetic enhancement also fortifies the host's vitality, making them resistant to physical and psionic corruption]
"Maybe this is a better way to do it," I mused, lowering my knife while eyeing Verina with a mischievous glint.
I approached Verina closer, and lowered my head to her position.
Without warning, I leaned forward and pressed my lips against hers.
Her eyes widened in shock as I deepened through, commending my tongue for seeking entrance—I figured my saliva would carry the same healing properties, and this method wouldn't leave me drilled by concerned gazes.
It might be because it was my first kiss, but I realized that I might be a little bit too aggressive with my tongue.
I severely enjoyed the sweetness, however.
"Mmph?!"
Verina's muffled protest only encouraged me further as I thoroughly explored her mouth, making sure to coat every surface with my enhanced saliva—pushing out what was in my mouth while trying to prevent her from pushing back by interlocking our tongues together when she acted deviant.
Her hands gripped the armrests of her chair as I continued the passionate exchange.
"Oh my~" Kuzunoha commented with her usual mischievous complexion. "What an... innovative method of administration. The surface area contact and absorption rate through the oral mucosa could potentially increase efficacy~"
Kuzunoha was basically saying that I need to ensure that I marked every surface of Verina's territory.
"Eeeekh!" Lupina went haywire on the table, her ears standing on end as she tried unsuccessfully to avert her eyes. "I-I didn't expect... should I even be watching this?!"
I pulled back slightly, a thin strand of faintly golden-tinged saliva connecting our lips. "We may need more for full regeneration," I stated matter-of-factly, though I couldn't help smirking at Verina's dazed expression and flushed cheeks. "Shall we continue?"
"... What—"
Before she could respond, I captured her lips again in an even deeper kiss. My tongue swirled and stroked against hers as I held her face between my palms. The stimulating warmth of my saliva began spreading visibly through her body, concentrating in her lower half.
"Fascinating~" Kuzunoha muttered, taking rapid notes in her head. "The transfer medium appears equally effective, perhaps more so given the enthusiasm of application."
Lupina had fallen silent, though her twitching ears betrayed her flustered state.
I maintained the kiss until I felt Verina's legs beginning to reform beneath my hands. Though I appeared focused solely on the task, I was secretly quite pleased with everyone's reactions—especially the way Verina melted into my touch despite her initial surprise.
When I finally pulled away, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand, I gave them all my most innocent smile. "See? Much more efficient than bloodletting, wouldn't you agree?"
Verina's legs had been restored before she knew it, appearing as if it hadn't gone in the first place—but she was severely conflicted on whether she should celebrate the return of her body parts, or celebrate the fact that we had just french-kissed for an extended amount of time.
Though, seeing the increasing favorability in her detail screen, it seemed that it was both.
"... Firstly, thank you," Verina tried her best to maintain her composure, even though her face was visibly burning red. "Secondly, thank you…"
She seemed to be at loss for words.
There seemed to be a civil war inside her head/
"T-this… this is unfair!" Lupina cried out, throwing her tantrum. "How can Verina get her leg back, but I'm still a decapitated head!?"
"Is there any difference between administering the healing effect through blood and saliva?" I asked Kuzunoha.
"Why don't we try?" Kuzunoha slyly answered.
"Well then..." I picked up Lupina's head from the table, cradling her between my palms. Her protests died in her throat as I gazed into her eyes. "Let's conduct another experiment, shall we~?"
"W-wait! I didn't mean—mmph!"
I silenced her objections by pressing my lips against hers, sliding my tongue past sharp canines to thoroughly coat her mouth with healing saliva. Her fur bristled in shock, but she couldn't escape my grasp as I deepened the kiss.
"Mmmnngh!" Lupina's muffled whimpers filled the room as I explored every corner, making sure no spot was left untouched. Droplets of our fused liquid trickled down her neck where it ended abruptly.
"The reaction appears different," Kuzunoha observed clinically, though her fox ears moved with poorly concealed amusement. "No visible regeneration occurring..."
I continued the passionate exchange, determined to test if increased quantity would help. Lupina's resistance gradually melted into submission as my tongue stroked against hers.
When I finally pulled away, she was panting heavily, eyes glazed.
"Unfortunately, still just a head," I noted matter-of-factly, though my lips curved into a slight smirk. "But at least you got something out of it, didn't you?"
"That was... that wasn't... you..." Lupina stammered incoherently, her entire face flushed like a heated metal.
"Fascinating how the healing properties manifest differently between subjects," Kuzunoha mused, while Verina watched the scene unfold with widened eyes, absently touching her own tingling lips.
I set Lupina's head back on the table, watching with satisfaction as she continued to sputter and blush. "We'll have to keep investigating other methods," I said innocently. "For science, of course."
I think I began liking science more after this.
Regardless, we no longer had time to dilly-dally after this. It was time for us to face the timely boss fight of the midnight.
