Chapter 171 Kyoto, Here We Go!
Haruto stood still, gazing at the colorful display of ekiben at the bustling train station. The shelves were filled with neatly packed bento boxes, each more enticing than the last.
He and Haruka were preparing to board the shinkansen to Kyoto — a journey that would take about three hours.
But truthfully, Haruto wasn't excited about the trip. He was here because things had grown awkward between him and Haruka ever since her sudden confession.
She'd been true to her word. Her feelings were out in the open now, and she acted as though they were already a couple.
For Haruto, it was difficult to process. Two kisses and an unexpected confession still hadn't changed how he saw her.
"Brother, have you already decided what to buy? What's taking you so long?"
Haruto jolted at the familiar voice and turned to find Haruka standing behind him. She wrapped her arms around his waist from behind, pressing her cheek against his back.
The scent of her shampoo mixed with the earthy smell of autumn leaves outside making him even more tense.
"Ah… yeah. Let's just grab this one." Haruto hastily picked a random bento from the shelf, trying to distract himself.
Haruka giggled, letting go of him as she held up her basket, overflowing with ekiben of various sizes and shapes.
"Hm… We really look like tourists, don't we?"
Haruto's eyes widened at the sheer number of boxes. "Haruka, it's just a three-hour trip. You don't need to buy that much."
Haruka pouted, her cheeks puffing out slightly. "But I rarely travel! Everyone says the best part of a train journey is the ekiben. So let me be happy, just this once."
Haruto sighed, shaking his head. "That's what foreigners said," he crossed his arms.
'
But still, Haruka's big eyes that looked like a bunny made him weak, "Fine, but you'd better finish all of it. You know you have a small stomach, right?"
Haruka grinned mischievously. "If I can't finish it all… I'll give you the leftovers!"
Before Haruto could respond, she leaned in and kissed his cheek. Her lips were soft, her touch fleeting, and before he could even react, she grabbed his hand.
"Let's go! Pay for everything, and let's catch the train!"
After they paid, they went to the platform and that was lively with travelers. The sound of wheels clattering on the tracks blended with the distant murmur of tourists chatting excitedly.
Haruka tugged Haruto along, her excitement palpable. Once they boarded the train and found their seats, she wasted no time in unpacking their ekiben.
"Here, try this!" Haruka chirped as she held up a piece of karaage with chopsticks, offering it to Haruto.
"Aaah~" she teased, moving it toward his mouth.
Haruto sighed but played along, opening his mouth to take a bite. He chewed thoughtfully, then nodded. "It's good."
"Right?" Haruka beamed, her eyes sparkling like the sunlight reflecting off the golden leaves outside the window.
Haruto watched her, feeling conflicted. 'She was trying so hard to create the atmosphere of a couple's trip — but for him, it still felt off.' He couldn't shake the awkwardness.
'But I could do it with Chiyo… Why is Haruka different?' he wondered, frustration building inside him.
The bullet train sped through the countryside, and before they knew it, the announcement for Kyoto Station echoed through the cabin.
As they stepped onto the platform, Haruto noticed how the air felt different — crisp, fresh, and carrying a faint scent of autumn leaves.
Outside the station, the city stretched out like a blend of past and present, with modern streets weaving between traditional wooden buildings and temple roofs.
Haruka's eyes sparkled as she took in the view. "Wow… It's been so long since we've been here."
Haruto smiled at her excitement. "Come on, let's get to the hotel."
They navigated the streets, pulling their suitcases along narrow sidewalks crowded with tourists and locals alike.
The sound of distant temple bells mixed with the chatter from nearby shops selling souvenirs, sweets, and seasonal snacks.
Their ryokan wasn't far from the station — a traditional inn tucked down a quiet street. The building's wooden façade and sliding doors gave it a timeless charm.
Inside, they were greeted with warm smiles and ushered to their room, which had tatami mats, sliding shoji doors, and a view of a small garden, where red maple leaves dotted the stone path.
As soon as they entered, Haruka let out a loud sigh. "Ahh!!! Finally, I can rest for a while," she said, dropping her suitcase and flopping onto the futon with a satisfied grin.
Haruto slid open the wooden wardrobe and glanced back at her. "Don't forget to put your suitcase away properly."
Haruka peeked over the futon, pouting. "Brother, can you help me, please?"
Haruto sighed but dragged her suitcase to the wardrobe. "There. Happy now?"
"Thank you, brother," she said sweetly, patting the futon beside her. "Come here, let's lie down for a bit!"
He took off his jacket and laid down beside her, staring up at the ceiling. Despite the short three-hour journey, the excitement of the day left him feeling a bit drained.
Haruka shifted closer, her head lightly resting against his shoulder. Outside, a gentle breeze carried the scent of autumn through the window, and the soft rustling of leaves filled the air.
"It feels nice here, doesn't it?" Haruka whispered, her voice soft.
Haruto nodded, his gaze still fixed on the ceiling. "Yeah… it does."
For a moment, neither of them spoke, simply enjoying the peaceful autumn air.
However, the quiet was broken when Haruka shifted. Without warning, she moved closer, crawling on top of Haruto, her weight pressing him into the futon.
"Haruka!" he exclaimed, startled, his hands instinctively going to her waist to push her off.
But she didn't budge. Instead, she leaned in, her body pressing firmly against his.
"What is it, brother?" she whispered, her voice low and steady. Her ruby eyes locked onto his, intense and unwavering.
"Haven't I been doing everything to become… the perfect girlfriend material for you?"
Her words struck him like a bolt.
Haruto's mind raced. He had been avoiding this conversation — avoiding her feelings. Yet here she was, confronting him directly.
He couldn't look away from her gaze. His chest tightened with nerves, his heart pounding in confusion and longing.
"Haruka… I…" he stammered, but the words wouldn't come. His thoughts tangled in a mess of emotions, questioning himself:
'Do I really want this? Do I want to cross that line?'
'But Haruka didn't wait for his answer.'
Leaning down, she captured his lips in a kiss — not a shy, hesitant kiss like before, but a bold, passionate one.
Her lips moved with purpose, biting gently at his lower lip until he opened his mouth.
She took the chance to slip her tongue inside, exploring him, her movements both eager and controlled.
Haruto's mind screamed at him to push her away, but his body betrayed him. His grip on her waist tightened as their kiss deepened.
Their tongues danced in a fiery rhythm, each trying to take control, their breaths growing heavier as their saliva mixed.
'Why is she so good at this?' Haruto wondered, a flicker of jealousy flashing through his mind.
'Who was that bastard that taught her to kiss like this?'
The thought made something snap inside him.
He kissed her back harder, his lips crashing against hers, claiming her, tasting her.
Haruka whimpered softly against him, but she didn't pull away. Instead, she gave in to his kiss, her fingers tangling in his hair as if to hold him closer.
When Haruto finally pulled back, both of them were gasping for air. A thin string of saliva connected their lips before breaking.
He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, his gaze locked on her flushed face.
Haruka's cheeks were red, her lips swollen, and her breath ragged. Her eyes sparkled with desire, the usual playful glint replaced by something deeper.
Haruto swallowed hard, trying to steady his thoughts. But he couldn't deny it anymore. He understood now why it had been so difficult to accept her feelings.
It wasn't that he didn't see her as a woman.
It was because he did — and that terrified him. The thought of losing control, of being consumed by her, scared him.
He knew if he gave in, there would be no going back.
Haruka seemed to sense his hesitation. She placed her hands on either side of his face, cupping his cheeks gently.
Her voice trembled, but her eyes remained steady. "I've loved you for so long. Not as a brother. But as a woman loves a man."

Haruto's chest tightened.
"Do you really want this?" he asked quietly, his voice barely above a whisper. "We can stop here. We can go back to how things were — back to being just… siblings."
Haruka shook her head firmly. "No." Her voice grew stronger, filled with certainty. "I don't want to go back. I never saw you as just my brother. I want to be yours. Completely."
Haruto searched her face, hoping to find a flicker of doubt — something to stop him from giving in. But all he saw was love, longing, and unwavering determination.
"Fine," he murmured, his voice low and rough.
"If that's what you want… But don't ever regret it. And don't ever step back after this."
Haruka's lips curled into a smile. "I won't. I've already made my choice."
Haruto leaned in again, his lips brushing against hers. This time, the kiss was slower, more deliberate, as if savoring every second. His hands slid to her waist, pulling her closer.
Outside, the garden rustled with the breeze, the red and gold leaves falling gently to the ground. The scent of autumn lingered in the air, but neither of them noticed.
At that moment, the only thing that existed was each other.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
