Chapter 184 Fortuitous Encounter
184 Fortuitous Encounter
Astonished, Carmen widened her eyes as she gazed at Xu Feng. "You aren't going to back down?" She asked in surprise. "The party I was with earlier dismissed me quite harshly, so I was sure no other sane players would assist me." "Ahem, are you implying I'm insane?" Xu Feng faked a cough.
"T-That's not what I mean." Carmen quickly raised her hands, shaking left and right to deny that was her meaning.
"I'm just teasing you," he chuckled after seeing her flustered look. "Also, don't lump me in with those previous party members of yours. Only those with no skills would dismiss you." Unsure of what to say, Carmen kept quiet. After all, even she doubted she could complete the mission, much less someone she just met. However, she didn't want to be rude, considering how Xu Feng was trying his best to help her.
'This lass really thinks I'm boasting huh…' Speechless, Xu Feng realized she was indeed not a simple woman. On the surface, she looked timid and fragile, easy to target. But looking more in-depth, she was actually quite thoughtful and filled with insight. Four times, she managed to stump him a total of four times, and that was not an easy thing to do. That was especially true when she used his own advice against him when he was inquiring about her earlier. Sometime later, the food arrived and Xu Feng decided to pause the conversation temporarily. "Let's eat first before we head down to the registrar." He suggested and began eating without waiting for her response. To make a person feel appreciative of you immensely, it was best to not talk too much. Instead, one should use actions to showcase your prowess. By then, the effect and admiration would increase tremendously. 'You ain't escaping from my clutches, future expert.' He thought to himself, enjoying the food to his content. He was too happy at the moment to even bother about the taste of the food, not that it was disgusting anyway.
"Is this really a game's food?" Carmen was startled, her eyes staring intensely at the food on her plate. "How can it be so tasty? It's even better than those high-class restaurants." "I'm glad you're enjoying the food." Xu Feng lightly smiled. It was so hard to believe that such a woman would turn out to be the fearsome demoness in the near future that struck fear in every guild, team, and player. Though he can't comment much on her transformation, given he was the same as well.
He changed so much to the point where he would only do things with value in return. Charity and generosity? Those two words are not in his dictionary— no longer. The cost of doing that was too high and not worth the effort spent on it.
'Survival of the strongest, they say. This statement stands true no matter where.' Xu Feng smiled, taking one last bite of his food and patiently waited for Carmen to be done.
Sometime later, Carmen finally reluctantly finished her last bite of her food, feeling regretful at her speed. "We can have some more once I help you finish killing the Ironhide Behemoth." Xu Feng suddenly said. Nôv(el)B\\jnn
"Really?" Her eyes quickly sparkled like glitter as she leaned close to him, her face very near his. "Yes," Xu Feng replied somewhat awkwardly, leaning backward a bit to avoid being too close to her face. Other men might erupt to cheer for such a development, but not for him. He had too many things to focus on. Not to mention, his mentality was different from his current age in this timeline. He was not some buffoon that could only think with their lower part and nothing else. Meanwhile, Carmen remained oblivious to her actions and subsequently retracted back to her seat. "By the way, what is your current level?" Xu Feng promptly asked, needing to know her level and skill usage. Though, if he had to make a deduction, she should be either level 2 or 3. "Oh, my level?" Carmen tilted her head slightly before opening her status screen to check it, clearly forgetting her level.
'Heh, what an amateur.' Xu Feng thought, finding her behavior to be quite hilarious compared to her future persona. "I'm level 6," Carmen suddenly revealed.
Clank!
Upon hearing that, Xu Feng nearly fell down from his chair, mainly from shock and disbelief.
"L-Level 6?" Xu Feng raised an eyebrow. "You're level 6?" He said once again, trying to confirm his hearing was incorrect. Alas, Carmen nodded her head and shared her status screen with him, allowing him to see her attributes. Naturally, this was another noob mistake, given a player status screen was equivalent to a person's ID card or credit card information. Nevertheless, Xu Feng had no time to question as his eyes locked on her level which had the number 6 next to it.
'She's really level 6?' He was baffled and wondered what was going on. How was that possible?
She was clearly a beginner, given her equipment and her wealth of the measly 10 copper coins. Hell, he wondered if she could even grind that many monsters in such a short amount of time to reach that level. Even Gentle Wind needed to spend a lot of time to meet his so-called level requirement previously when they were raiding the Scorched Caverns. "Are you not a beginner who just created your character?" Xu Feng asked in a baffled tone. "I'm a beginner." Carmen nodded and explained, "I got to level 6 because Librarian Griselda gave me a potion to drink for helping on her behalf to gather the rare ingredient." "A potion?"
"Mhm, the potion made me rise to level 6 instantly from level 2." She said in the most natural tone.
'She's the main character. She is definitely a main character to receive such a fortuitous encounter.' Xu Feng thought, feeling envious and jealous of Carmen's opportunity.
