Sanctuary: Safe Haven

Chapter 112: Plant Collector

The plan was set into motion. Kael and Tiberius worked tirelessly to finalize the arrangements for the move into Canna's domain.

According to Kael, the entire process would likely take about a month, maybe less if things went smoothly. With the integration of the Verdant Wardens already completed, the barbarians prepared to be the next inhabitants of Canna's domain.

As the first groups of barbarians stepped into the domain, their reactions were nothing short of astonishment. The lush, verdant landscape that stretched out before them was unlike anything they had ever seen.

The beauty of the place left them speechless—rolling hills covered in vibrant greenery, towering trees with leaves that shimmered in the light, and crystal-clear streams winding their way through the landscape. It was as if they had stepped into a paradise, a place that only existed in their dreams.

The shock didn't end there. As they explored further, they came across the pens of groundhogs and horned hares. Hundreds, no, thousands of these creatures roamed freely within their enclosures. The sheer number of them left the barbarians bewildered. Never in their wildest dreams had they imagined seeing such a sight.

Kael, ever the organizer and guide, took control of the situation. He gathered the bewildered barbarians and began to explain the purpose of the groundhogs and horned hares. "These creatures," Kael began, his voice steady and reassuring, "are part of the food supply for this domain. The groundhogs, except for the green ones, have become an integral part of our ecosystem. The horned hares are similar.

Their numbers ensure that we have a stable source of food for the future, and Canna has taken great care to ensure that they thrive here."

He continued the tour, walking them through the domain and showing them various parts of their new home. The barbarians listened intently, their initial shock giving way to a deep appreciation for the careful planning and thought that had gone into creating this sanctuary. Kael pointed out the various features of the domain, explaining how everything was designed to work in harmony with nature.

"We'll be building your homes near the Verdant Wardens' village," Kael explained as they approached the designated area. "There's no need for walls here. This domain is secure, and Canna has ensured that we are protected. You can go all out and build whatever homes you desire. This land is ours to cultivate and make our own."

The barbarians exchanged glances, their expressions shifting from doubt to determination. The idea of living in such a paradise, free to build and grow as they pleased, filled them with a renewed sense of purpose. They began to discuss their plans, envisioning the homes they would construct and the lives they would lead in this new land.

While Kael and Tiberius continued to oversee the integration of the barbarians into the domain, Canna found himself drawn deeper into the forest. He had explored much of his domain, but the surrounding forest near the barbarian village still held mysteries and treasures waiting to be discovered.

To his surprise, Flora had decided to join him on this exploration. They had spoken earlier, discussing her role as the guardian of her village. Now that they had moved into the domain, her duties as a protector had shifted. There was no longer a need to guard the village as before. Instead, her main concern now was a rather unexpected one—telling the children not to overfeed the groundhogs.

Since the Verdant Wardens had integrated into the domain, some of the younger members of the village had taken a liking to the green groundhogs, adopting them as pets. Flora had observed the situation with a mix of amusement and concern. "They're so fond of the little creatures," she said, her voice tinged with a soft laugh.

"But they've started overfeeding them to the point where some of the groundhogs are beginning to resemble balloons more than animals. I've had to gently remind them not to spoil their new pets too much."

Canna chuckled at the thought, nodding in agreement. "I suppose it's a good problem to have," he remarked. "At least they're happy here."

As they walked, Canna found himself frequently stealing glances at Flora. Ever since the night of the celebration, when Flora had taken her human form, Canna had been unable to stop comparing her to the supermodels of Earth.

Her beauty was simply unmatched—flawless white skin that seemed to glow in the sunlight, long emerald hair that cascaded down her back like a waterfall, and eyes that shimmered like the most precious of gems. Her scent was intoxicating, a blend of fresh air and the essence of nature, a fragrance that Canna found himself deeply drawn to.

Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Canna forced himself to focus on the task at hand. Now that his domain was revitalized, he had the opportunity to begin gathering the plants, flowers, and trees that he had long been interested in cultivating within his sanctuary.

Having Flora by his side was invaluable; with her vast knowledge of nature and her ability to safely excavate the flora he desired, their task became much more manageable.

As they ventured deeper into the forest, Flora pointed out various plants and trees that caught Canna's interest. "This here," she said, gesturing to a cluster of blue flowers with delicate petals, "is the Azurebell. It's known for its soothing properties. In the past, we used it to create salves for wounds. Its scent is also known to calm the mind and ease stress."

Canna knelt down to inspect the flowers, taking in their subtle fragrance. "We should definitely bring these into the domain," he said thoughtfully. "They'll be useful not just for healing, but for maintaining a peaceful atmosphere."

Flora nodded in agreement and moved on to another plant, this one a tall, slender tree with bark that shimmered in the sunlight. "This is the Silverpine," she explained. "Its wood is incredibly resilient, and it has a natural resistance to rot and decay. It's often used in the construction of homes and tools in our village."

Canna ran his hand along the bark, feeling its smooth texture. "Perfect for building sturdy structures," he mused. "We'll need to bring several of these back."

As they continued their exploration, Flora introduced Canna to more of the forest's treasures—a rare herb known as Emberleaf that thrived in volcanic soil, a vine called the Crimson Ivy that produced berries with potent healing properties, and a massive tree known as the Heartwood, which Flora described as the ancient protector of the forest.

"The Heartwood is sacred," Flora said reverently. "It's said to be as old as the forest itself. Its roots run deep, connecting with the very life force of the land. If we were to take a sapling, it would bless your domain with its protection."

Canna's eyes widened in admiration as he looked up at the towering tree. "We must bring a sapling back with us," he said, his voice filled with resolve. "This tree could be the foundation of our sanctuary."

Flora smiled, pleased with Canna's enthusiasm. "I thought you might say that. I'll ensure that we transplant it carefully so that it thrives in your domain."

The two continued their journey, gathering the plants and trees that would help shape Canna's sanctuary. Along the way, they talked about their shared vision for the domain—a place where nature could flourish, where creatures and people alike could find refuge and peace.

As they worked together, Canna found himself growing more comfortable around Flora. Her knowledge and passion for nature were infectious, and he couldn't help but admire her dedication to preserving the natural world. At the same time, he remained acutely aware of her beauty, though he did his best to stay focused on their mission.

By the time they returned to the domain, they had gathered a diverse array of flora that would help bring Canna's vision to life. Flora's expertise had made the process smooth and efficient, and Canna was grateful to have her by his side. Enjoy new stories from mvl

As they prepared to begin planting, Flora turned to Canna with a warm smile. "This is just the beginning," she said softly. "With time and care, your domain will become a true sanctuary—a place where nature and harmony reign."

Canna nodded, his heart swelling with determination. "Thank you, Flora. I couldn't have done this without you."

Flora's smile widened, and she reached out to gently touch Canna's arm. "I'm honored to be a part of this, Canna."

With renewed purpose, they set to work, planting the flora they had gathered and nurturing the seeds of a sanctuary that would one day be a beacon of peace and life.
