Chapter 452: Fifth World: A Son Pays For His Father's Sins

In a desolate beautiful palace made of bright and vibrant rose gold coral was a gorgeous mermaid with a transcendent tail swaying to the rhythm of her slow hum. Her once long platinum grey hair had been cut till it was neck length but she didn't seem bothered by it with her gorgeous hazel eyes focused on what appeared to be a pendant.

One could easily tell with a single glance that she was in a horrible mood despite her surroundings being serene. Her palace gates were heavily guarded by a group of mermen clad in gold plated armour. In their hands they held gold half-pike type of spear known as spontoon.

Their helmets clearly stipulated their rank which was the king's personal guard. Even without their helmets, their aura spoke volumes giving off the vibe of come closer if you want a suicidal death by soldiers. They were much more serious than the queen's guard outside Buckingham Palace.

One would assume they were there to protect the queen but that wasn't the case at all.

This I love my wife so I am protecting her scenario was basically a balloon filled with water and then frosted with icing to dress it up as a cake when it's not even Halloween.

It was all an illusion. What was truly going on was that the queen was under house arrest. She couldn't so much as peep through the window without permission. The queen had caused so many problems for the king when it came to his dealings with the demon king which almost cost him their partnership.

So under the guise that his wife had a mental breakdown and required treatment, he locked her up in the palace and tried to give her medicines to make her seem out of it. But she was the daughter of the former king after all. She wasn't some naive little girl from K series who falls straight into the enemy's trap every time.

She manipulated the situation that is to say when he came over for a visit she would act loony. On one such occasion she was training with her dagger when her husband walked in unannounced to check on her. Unwillingly to sell herself out she took off her hairpin, sat on the floor and started cutting her beautiful hair with her dagger. All along she was mumbling some incoherent words.

This sight made the king reassured since he knew how obsessed his wife was with her hair. She had to be crazy to ruin such an important thing to her. Since then the king didn't make his appearance sending the medicine over all the time. The dust had finally settled for the king and he couldn't be happier.

So her long platinum grey hair was unprofessionally styled to trick her husband. At least now he was no longer watching her like a hawk so she could finally relax. It was because of the king's lax behaviour that Zhao Zhi and Qie Xieling managed to sneak into her palace unnoticed.

The two chose to come in through the window. One can only imagine the queen's reaction when the window was forcibly opened and two mermen rolled in. She mistook the two for assassins at first so she drew her dagger from her brassiere armour and took up a battle stance.

She snuck up on the two raised her dagger to attack but the moment she saw that face with a mouth smeared with a blue colour she dropped her dagger and slapped hard across Qie Xieling's face overlooking the tail on his body. "You vile thing! You dare come back here when you ruined my son's life," she yelled unable to distinguish between Qie Ranzhe and Qie Xieling. As expected the son paid for the sins of his father two decades later.

"Ouch, Shixiong. She hit me," complained Qie Xieling rubbing his sore cheek in the Elmo voice that had the two feeling awkward.

The queen raised a brow and asked, "What's wrong with your voice?" She had never heard Qie Ranzhe speak but there is no way in hell she would have thought he would sound like that. This made her upset even more. Her son was knocked up by a handsome man with a high pitched rabbit voice. This was too much for this old lady.

"Mother," called out Wen Qinxi to get her attention, "that's not him. This is your grandson," while inspecting Qie Xieling's reddened cheek.

The queen's face went from a slight frown to a beaming smile disregarding her own son. She took Qie Xieling's hand while doting on him like a porcelain doll.

"Oh darling, nana didn't mean it. Come let nana see where it hurts," she said touching his chin to turn his face around, "I am so sorry. Nana will make you feel all better."

As she said this she created a ball of white luminous light in the palm of her hand and placed it on Qie Xieling's cheek.

Two seconds later, the swelling had simply vanished like he wasn't slapped a second ago. Qie Xieling smiled at her feeling like he had gained something very important. Of course, the biggest loser tonight was Wen Qinxi. Even if he wasn't actually Zhao Zhi shouldn't his mother at least hug him or say long time no see?

"What's your name?" she asked with a smile that reached her eyes. She recalled how this little one held her finger tightly staring at her with those big doleful eyes like she was the most important person in the world to him.

This beautiful memory constantly flashed in her mind for the past two decades. Now those eyes were looking at her again only this time the kid was all grown up.

"Xieling, I am Xieling," he said with that high pitch voice looking so docile.

"Aww so cute," she said pinching his cheek in excitement, "Nana will call you Lin Lin from now on. Are you hungry? I can get you some food."

"Ahem," said Wen Qinxi clearing his throat loudly feeling like a light bulb. She turned to look at him but instead of a loving welcome, it was more like a loving scolding.

"I took you out of this place only for you to come back with my grandson. Are you nuts? Do you know how dangerous this place is for the both of you?" she said. This had Wen Qinxi suspect that Zhao Zhi was adopted.

"I don't know what happened. I heard someone calling me and felt unwell then we both ended up here out of sheer coincidence," he explained and the more he spoke the more she understood what happened.

She had these kinds of powerful dreams over the years where she called out to her son. The desire to see her son again drove these powerful dreams that part of her soul would go looking for him.
