Chapter 1321 Future of the Werewolves
Rex decided to not be too difficult.
He had been so focused on other things that he barely spent time with Adhara or even the others so it would be good for him to watch from the sideline. Since Adhara didn't seem to be having any trouble controlling the situation, there was no harm in letting her handle it.
Observing her battling in the sky, creating beautiful arcs of violet flames, he was enthralled.
"She had gotten stronger..." He muttered inwardly.
Despite stating the obvious, it came to him that Adhara was vastly different than back then.
Just like him, she also experienced a stark change and evolved for the better.
It was practically endearing to see her fighting style.
Not only was she able to execute powerful fiery spells, but she also utilized her other side.
Each time a mutated animal pierced her defense, her body flickered and phased.
Being attacked from all sides wasn't a problem for her because of that.
As he observed this grand fiery spectacle, he turned toward the city, checking the others.
Connecting with the vision of one of his clones, he saw the situation.
...
On the north wall, Evelyn could be seen standing there with grace.
Her senses could feel the incoming horde of mutated animals.
Dargena City has never been attacked, their location was quite hidden and also quite hard to access. Because of that, this would be the first time, and Evelyn had already told Dindora, as well as Linthia that this would be a practice.
Since it was a rare occurrence, Evelyn was going to assess their leadership skills.
None of the two were allowed to step into the battle themselves.
It was a test and the captains were taking this very seriously.
Dindora is tasked to handle the north side while Linthia would be at the east side.
Considering the climbing energy level from the horde, the north and the east sides are where the horde is strongest. For the south side, and the west sides, Nadia was taking on the south while the mayor was taking the west.
No barrier protecting the city so if any of them failed, the city would be attacked.
In preparation for the worst, the people were told to stay inside their houses.
Of course, Evelyn would step in if that happened but it's best to give them more pressure.
Because of that, she lied that the Silverstar Pack wouldn't meddle, including her.
"Activate the formation!"
Dindora commanded the guard beside Evelyn.
He fired a bright spell to the sky to signal the guards tasked to activate the formation.
Even though the castle malfunctioned, the formation it has, the Kingdom of War formation to be exact was still able—to be activated through the use of elemental stones. Seeing that the signal was fired, the guards quickly activated the formation.
In an instant, the ground glowed with a brilliant light, powered by the formation.
It emanated a unique energy that latched itself onto the city's forces.
No matter whether they were Awakened or Supernaturals, the energy empowered them all.
Feeling the increase in power, Dindora nodded and gazed ahead.
Since she is a Dryad, a partner of nature, she trusts the forest to be an advantage for them.
She stationed the city guards in the Humming Damned Forest.
Being living in Dargena City with most of them needing to go through the Humming Damned Forest once in a while, the city guards were quite familiar with the forest. Most of them were on the trees or behind bushes, waiting for the horde to come through.
Despite feeling that the mutated animals were close, they needed time to reach the forest.
Other than encountering the mutated animals in Chrono Hollow, they might also get lost.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
It was precisely why Dargena City had a teleportation formation.
No normal person could go through the Chrono Hollow with relative ease.
But even then, it was only a matter of time before the horde found its way to the city.
Out of the Awakened present, most of them are Wind or Mind Elementalists.
Having the Burton and Hester Family, this was as expected.
Roar!
Grargh!
Piercing through the walls of mist, ferocious mutated animals began pouring out.
Taking into account the rules of the Chrono Hollow, the ones that got out had yellow or even red force coating their bodies. Not only Humans or Supernaturals but mutated animals could also wield force energy.
Naturally, the ones who managed to go through the mist were the strongest of them all.
Ninth-rank realm mutated animals began galloping out of the mist.
Even then, the city guards were ready, no fear could be seen behind their gazes.
Ransacking everything in their paths, these mutated animals pierced through the forest like a pack of rhinos, stumbling over trees without a care in the world. But this was expected—they were simply animals.
Swish!
One of them, a mutated jackal passed through a translucent string.
It didn't feel anything until the energy from the string latched onto it, assaulting its mind.
Not even needing a long time to take effect, the jackal stumbled in dizziness.
A wave of powerful migraine assaulted its mind, messing with its focus.
Before it could do anything, it fell to the ground with its tongue out, immobilized.
Numerous spell traps were set across the entire forest.
Some got caught in a whistling sharp wind net and others got hit by a mind bomb and began hallucinating. "Attack now! Remember to only attack the infiltrators, don't attack any animals, or creatures inhabiting the forest!"
Heeding Dindora's commands, the city guards rushed in, attacking those caught in traps.
Not only that, the creatures of the forest also helped them.
Under the help of the Forest's Overseer, these creatures sided with the city guards.
Despite the infiltrating mutated animals mostly—in the ninth-rank realm, their numbers were slowly being reduced. One mutated animal was attacked by a dozen or even more, and with the trap, the disparity in power between them was able to be overcome.
It also went the same way on the other sides, the mutated animals were being handled.
Evelyn watched this with a look of approval.
"I guess I should've expected this, Rex didn't choose this place without a reason,"
...
Meanwhile, far across the landscape, the Scarlet Banes Kingdom.
It was a peaceful night in the capital city.
Unlike the other races that were sweating at the mutated animals' newfound power, reaching a higher degree, the Werewolves have no problem with them. In fact, it was a good thing—as many gathered to create a hunting party and satiate their desire to hunt.
On the other hand, the strong predatory mutated animals steer clear of their territory.
Not that they were afraid but because of Sven's presence.
Even mutated animals who have instinctive intelligence knew that Sven was a problem.
Due to his high kill count, his killing intent permeated through the land.
Like a repellent, it steered clear of the mutated animals.
Prince Alaric was currently sitting on a sofa facing a magical fire in front of him.
On his hand was a moonstone, humming with a white light.
He used the moonstone to sharpen his claws while his mind was deep in contemplation.
Each stroke of the moonstone against the claws created a spark and a grating sound.
It filled the empty room he was in right now.
Being under Rex's orders—Prince Alaric has been actively assessing the situation intricately, seeing how his people reacted to the destruction of the Bloodstone Crater, and the death of Prince Leif.
Most were mourning while the others were questioning what had happened.
Prince Alaric tried to answer the best he could but there's still suspicion growing around him.
"All are deeming the Royal Black Prince, as a false Werewolf. I should at the very least—grow the side who are willing to be under the Clarentium Empire. His eventual visit would certainly be met with resistance but I only need to make it less overwhelming," He mused.
His mind has been racing for ways to help sway the heart of his people.
But saying that is easier than accomplishing it.
Looking at the flickering fire, crackling warmly, Prince Alaric recalled someone.
"Ice and Snow Princess, I need to meet with her. She could help me," He said with hope.
Recalling that the Ice and Snow Princess helped Rex back then, she's perfect.
Prince Alaric could pursue her and sought her aid.
However, the problem with that was the Ice and Snow Princess' location was unknown.
As he was contemplating in the serene night, he lifted his gaze, noticing something.
"I was wondering when you'll come back," He suddenly said—before he gestured at the other sofa beside him, noticing that someone appeared in the room with him. "please, come and sit beside me. I need some company tonight"
Upon hearing this, the figure stepped out of the shadow.
Her glowing yellow eyes were the only thing that could be seen until she stepped out.
Glancing over his shoulder, Prince Alaric saw Princess Selene on the corner.
She snuck inside while he was contemplating earlier.
"What deal did you make with that false prince?" Princess Selene asked, sitting on the sofa.
Knowing that Prince Alaric was helpless when she last saw him, the only reason he was here and alive was surely because—he had made a deal with Rex. Alas, the question made Prince Alaric chuckle lightly.
He turned to face the fire again and answered.
"Not a deal... I was given an ultimatum"
"What ultimatum?"
"To make our kingdom go under the Clarentium Empire"
"And you accept that?"
"I say that doesn't sound too bad"
"Doesn't sound too bad? Do you have no honor? He defiled our legacy and toyed with us! I've thought of you highly all this time—but it seems like I was mistaken, you're a disgrace to your own race and the Origin"
Princess Selene barked, baring her sharp fangs in utter anger.
But Prince Alaric didn't respond with the same ferocity.
He knew where she was coming from.
"I didn't accept making our kingdom go under his empire. I accept the survival of our race"
"Survival means nothing if we are forced to our knees!"
"Then would you rather die?"
Prince Alaric turned to stare at Princess Selene right in the eyes, his tone was serious.
"You would rather let our race be annihilated, and be erased from history, is that it? You have seen what the Royal Black Prince was capable of. Sven could match him but would you really gamble our entire kingdom on that? What would happen if Sven lost?"
"Sven would never lose. He has the blessing of all the Gods as the descendant of the Origin"
"What makes you think the Royal Black Prince couldn't obtain the Gods' blessings too?"
Upon hearing this, Princess Selene was silenced.
She couldn't refute Prince Alaric's words.
"Even if Sven won, can he make sure the Royal Black Prince is dead? What if he escaped and plotted to take us down in the future? He reached this level of strength—a strength that only could be achieved for hundreds of years of devouring in a matter of a year, A YEAR!"
Digging into Rex's background, Prince Alaric was only met with surprise after surprise.
It was not wise to make Rex an enemy.
But even then, Princess Selene wasn't willing yet she had no answer.
She could only bite her lower lip so hard that it began to bleed.
"The Lunirich Gods wouldn't let him win, we need to believe in them," She said desperately.
Prince Alaric smiled acutely, "The Gods? If you believe in them, why did you run away?"
Upon hearing this, Princess Selene's eyes widened.
"Why did you run away, instead of helping the God-possessed Prince Leif? Can you give me an answer to that?" Prince Alaric asked—his voice was bordering on mocking. "No? Then let me tell you the answer... it is because you didn't believe. So do not lecture me about beliefs, because you're no better"
