Chapter 336: Chapter 211: The Easter Egg Appears (Part 3)_2
After dumping all the trash, the spaceship quickly left, not wanting to linger here at all.
And the thing that could change the player’s destiny was just ahead.
Following the path built out of the mountain of trash, Monkey knew that any other route was useless at this time.
He was bound to be guided to the middle of the junkyard, where the piece of iron was located, and upon seeing it, it struggled to start up, then spoke in a stiff and haughty tone, “Kid, come over here.”
“Hey there, handsome, come over here, would you?”
The sudden voice stunned Monkey.
He had played the story mode many times already, but he hadn’t reached the designated spot yet, so he shouldn’t be hearing any other voices.
Moreover, this voice sounded somewhat frivolous, completely different from the voice of the Artifact Spirit he remembered, which left him confused.
“I’m on your right side, look to the right, yes, right here, see me?”
Monkey turned his head in surprise and saw on his right side another model of the iron lump embedded in the pile of trash, an electronic eye hanging out and watching him.
Monkey had never encountered this event before, and no one had discovered it when watching videos online either.
Could this be the Easter egg the boss left behind?
This guess made Monkey so excited that he couldn’t help but shake all over and started scratching his chin.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
“Weird, why are you scratching your chin? I’ve never seen a squirrel scratch its chin before. Can you come over here and drag me out of this place?”
Not acting immediately, Monkey stepped forward and began curiously observing the talking Mecha.
The other party was a small Mecha, with a head about the same size as his own.
Above it were piled up pieces of Mecha, and this head was just jammed underneath, making it very difficult to move out.
Monkey walked around it and said helplessly, “Can’t come out.”
“So, what are we going to do? Hey, what are you doing? Why are you moving to my side?”
Monkey expertly moved to the side and back of the iron head and then found the location of the chip.
Looking at his small paws, he pulled out a half-broken piece of iron from aside and inserted it into the gap of the iron head, prying open the Memory Chip’s case with force.
Small Mechas are generally not combat Mechas, and their memory chips are easy to remove, just find the right spot and press gently.
After taking out the Memory Chip and other chips from inside, Monkey looked around, then ran over to a Micro Mecha even smaller than the small Mecha and opened its chip slot.
The Micro Mecha’s chip was already damaged, and in the original plot of “Spirit Vessel,” this Micro Mecha could come back to life with a chip swap, so he had effectively completed this side quest in advance.
After he finished swapping the Memory Chip, the previously still Micro Mecha suddenly sat up and started panting heavily while clutching its chest.
“My God, did I just die or did you give me a new body?”
Looking at his counterpart, Monkey was even more astonished.
The expressions of this Micro Mecha were incredibly lifelike, indistinguishable from a real person.
The Artifact Spirit would also have such expressions later on, but it always seemed a bit off, not as lively as this Micro Mecha.
This discovery further convinced Monkey that this Micro Mecha was indeed the Easter egg arranged by the boss.
Although a bit dissatisfied with Monkey for swapping its body without permission, the Micro Mecha instantly cheered up after finding the new body quite functional.
This Micro Mecha was a toy Mecha, visually just a brown Teddy Bear with a face always wearing a carefree smile.
Carefully wiping the dirt off its body, it said to Monkey, “Thanks for that, or else who knows how long I would have had to lie there. You have no idea how boring it is to be alone there, wanting to tell a dirty joke but having no one to laugh.”
“Then tell me one now,” Monkey said excitedly.
“Alright, two drunks walk into a bar… wait a minute, are you over eighteen yet?”
“One more year to go.”
“Are you trying to seduce me into committing a crime, do you understand?! Are you a cop?! Have you started to entrap people like this now?! Let me tell you, I’ve already decided not to go back to that damn place!”
Listening to Teddy Bear’s roar, Monkey felt that the other’s life experience seemed quite rich.
Although he hadn’t completed the main quest yet, looking at Teddy Bear in front of him, Monkey felt there was no need to rush the main quest for the time being.
Patting the other’s shoulder, Monkey said, “Don’t be like that, let’s go back to my turf and rest a bit.”
“Is there anything fun?” Teddy Bear asked eagerly.
Monkey thought for a moment, then replied, “I’m not too sure what fun stuff there is, but I do know there aren’t any cops.”
“Well, what are we waiting for! Let’s go.”
Teddy Bear excitedly pulled Monkey backwards, but after only a few steps, it stopped.
Looking around at the surroundings, it mumbled to itself, “Something isn’t right.”
“What’s wrong?”
“We’re heading towards the center of the junkyard, but our direction is actually pointing towards the outskirts… Who exactly are you, and why does it feel like this world is targeting you?”
“Just a player. It seems like we can’t leave this place without completing the main quest.”
“Main quest?”
Looking at the bewildered Teddy Bear, Monkey felt that this easter egg was hidden with a lot of care.
After explaining what he saw regarding the main quest, Teddy Bear thought for a while, then said, “You mean to say, the world I’m in is actually just a game, a game world that exists for you players?”
“That’s right.”
“Unbelievable, but it does explain some of my feelings. I have memories of the past, but I feel these memories aren’t real. In other words, I’ve been infused with certain memories, and the time I’ve spent with you is the only real thing. Wow, my existence depends on you to define reality, I’ll have to look up which philosophical school that belongs to when I have time.”
Watching Teddy Bear start to ponder its existence with small steps, Monkey found this NPC to be somewhat adorable.
Even though he didn’t understand a word it said.
Quietly waiting for it to finish thinking, Monkey asked, “Can we go complete the main quest now?”
“Sure, wait! No, we can’t!”
Looking at the anxious Teddy Bear, Monkey asked in confusion, “Why not?”
“This world has a kind of compulsion; it forces you to complete the main quest. The fact that we can’t go back the way we came is the best proof.”
“Hmm, and then?”
“I’m suspicious that many items in this world are also compulsory. For example, according to the main storyline, the Mecha we are going to meet later is supposed to be the ‘only Artifact Spirit.’ But I’m also an Artifact Spirit, so what’s going to happen when two Artifact Spirits meet?”
Monkey thought for a moment, then said, “To maintain the uniqueness of the main quest’s Artifact Spirit, the world might eliminate you?”
“That’s right, I suspect the moment you meet that main quest’s Artifact Spirit, I’m going to be eliminated. This is bad, I’m going to die. It was nice meeting you, friend, at least in my last moments, I know who I am.”
Having come to terms with its identity, Teddy Bear calmly accepted its fate and decided to face death.
Grasping Monkey’s hand, it said to Monkey, “Even though I’ve only met you, I believe you’re definitely an amazing person. Alright, go on now, don’t mind me.”
Looking at Teddy Bear in front of him, Monkey had a feeling that if he didn’t do something, this easter egg would definitely vanish.
And this easter egg hid what the boss truly wanted to express; he didn’t want it to disappear before his eyes.
Recalling the setting of the storyline mode, he remembered that in this mode players had a degree of autonomy, but the world’s compulsion would force players back into the storyline.
This compulsion wouldn’t appear out of nowhere but would manifest in a way that “fits the current situation of the game,” trying to make the game’s storyline as natural as possible.
But if, the player’s strength was sufficient to break this compulsion, then wouldn’t that mean the player had the power to alter the storyline?
Looking around, Monkey found the Mecha fragments he wanted nearby; it was possible to build a Mecha.
So, let’s give it a try.
