Chapter 57: Chapter 55: As One Wishes
In the main thoroughfare of Magic City's car city, the Rolls-Royce Phantom smoothly merged into the flow of traffic. Its glossy black and luxurious body appeared understated and restrained. This luxury vehicle, with a base price of 9.2 million RMB, would cost as much as 10.02 million RMB after taxes, making it both grand and comfortable.
Sitting in the back seat, Chu Mo stared blankly out of the window, his gaze unfocused. Generally, only when he was contemplating the outline of an article would he fall into such a faraway state.
The woman beside him, with her long, flowing hair, also wore an expressionless face. Her lively eyes were fixed outside the window, carrying a hint of melancholy and a touch of complexity that she hadn't even realized. Stay tuned for updates on мѵʟ
The man and woman in the back seat didn't speak. Likewise, the handsome driver remained silent, making the interior of the car exceptionally quiet.
The driver, Shou Bo, initially wanted to play some light music to dispel the heavy atmosphere in the car, but after glancing at the silent pair in the rearview mirror, he abandoned the idea.
The Rolls-Royce continued on, driving towards the last glimmer of sunset in the west. After half an hour, and passing through more than a dozen intersections, it finally stopped in a fairly decent residential area.
"Mr. Chu, we have arrived at the Royal Scenic Orchid Pavilion," Shou Bo reminded softly, as he alighted from the driver's seat and respectfully opened the car door for Chu Mo, who finally snapped out of his daydreaming to note the woman who had already gotten out of the car. With a clearer look in his eyes, he stepped out as well.
Looking up at Building No. 6, Chu Mo walked casually to the woman's side and said:
"You wouldn't mind inviting me in for a glass of water, would you?"
After taking a deep look at the man in front of her, Chu Wen turned slightly, her face still expressionless:
"I share the rent with a roommate, and we agreed that no men are allowed inside...!"
Taking a few steps forward and creating some distance from Chu Mo, Chu Wen stopped, took out her phone from her pocket, and made a call. After a moment, when the person on the other end answered, she spoke in a slightly lowered voice:
"Xiao Shuang, could I discuss something with you... I ran into a former classmate downstairs... It's a guy, and we used to get along quite well. I was thinking... Okay, I'll treat you to KFC next time... I promise it won't happen again!"
After hanging up, Chu Wen turned around and said softly:
"She agreed!"
Giving a signal to Shou Bo to wait there, Chu Mo followed the woman with his strides.
Entering the elevator, he noticed she pressed for the sixth floor. In the confined space, a faint and pleasant fragrance continually wafted into his nose, not at all overpowering—just a very subtle scent of flowers!
Shortly after, the elevator stopped, and he followed her to the door marked 604, watching her take out the keys to open it.
As soon as the door was opened, he was immediately greeted by decorations full of pink and a cozy atmosphere.
The modest living room was furnished with a set of cute, dark green sofas adorned with fluffy toys and cartoon cushions.
Two pots of lush green vines stood in the corner, adding a fresh green touch to the entire living room.
Snow-white walls were adorned with several abstract paintings, and atop the TV cabinet was a curved LCD television.
A gentle fragrance filled the air!
As Chu Mo's gaze returned from scanning the room, the composed Chu Wen said softly:
"We don't have men's slippers at home, so don't bother changing your shoes."
Chu Mo, naturally with no objections, walked into the living room in his leather shoes. After taking a seat on the sofa, he took the glass of water offered by her and, looking for something to say, inquired:
"What's the cost of housing like here? I used to share an apartment in Sunshine Residence with a similar layout, and it was eight thousand five hundred RMB per month."
As Chu Mo finished speaking, the girl with a flicker of curiosity in her eyes said softly:
""
"It's five hundred RMB cheaper than your place. Eight thousand a month here. My roommate and I each pay four thousand. To tell you the truth, just the rent alone is suffocating me. If it weren't for occasional help from my roommate, I'd probably move to a cheap house in the suburbs!"
"Oh!"
Chu Mo nodded and glanced at the now completely dark sky outside the window before quietly standing up and suddenly saying:
"You must cook for yourselves, right? Do you have any ingredients in the kitchen?"
"Ah?"
The girl, who hadn't caught on at first, noticed Chu Mo gesturing toward the kitchen and then nodded:
"Xiao Shuang occasionally cooks... There should be some vegetables and stuff in the fridge!"
Without much ado, Chu Mo headed straight for the kitchen and casually said:
"You don't mind me using your kitchen, do you?"
After the girl with a complex expression on her face agreed, Chu Mo entered the kitchen and immediately opened the fridge. Thankfully, although there weren't many ingredients, there were still a few. He could rustle up a dinner with them.
Having honed his cooking skills with his own master chef for a week, Chu Mo, feeling much improved, didn't dawdle. He took out all the ingredients from the fridge and then started to consider how to pair the dishes.
When Chu Wen, who was standing at the door in a daze, saw that Chu Mo had indeed started to wash and chop the vegetables, she suddenly sighed:
"You really don't need to do this. I've said that I will work to move past the shadows of that time and start a new life. If you care too much, it only makes me feel heavier..."
Chu Mo, who was rinsing the cabbage in the sink, did not turn around, his voice gentle:
"I'm not going to tell you what to think. I simply follow my heart and act on my true feelings. I don't expect a meal to make up for past mistakes.
If I did nothing and just accepted your forgiveness without any qualms, even if you moved past the shadows and started anew, I would still fall into deep self-reproach due to guilt.
So, what you need right now is to just quietly watch by the side and wholeheartedly accept my apology. That would be the greatest kindness you could show me."
"Otherwise, I'll feel guilty for a lifetime!"
The soft words echoed in the room. The girl by the kitchen door opened her mouth several times, seemingly wanting to say something, but in the end, she just let out a light sigh and headed towards the bathroom.
After a week of learning, this was Chu Mo's first time cooking without the help of the master chef. However, Chu Mo himself had decent cooking skills, and with the recent practice, his talent had indeed improved significantly.
Twenty minutes later, as the first dish was finished, the entire kitchen filled with the enticing scent of food.
When Chu Mo was preparing the third dish, footsteps approached from behind, and without turning, he cheerfully said:
"Dinner will be ready in about five minutes, so you can start setting the table now!"
Without waiting for a response, an odd sensation in his heart, Chu Mo instinctively turned around, and then, a strange girl wearing shorts that revealed her long, fair legs appeared before him.
"Are you Wen Wen's classmate? This is the first time I've seen Wen Wen bring a guy to our shared apartment. Pretty handsome, and you can cook too. Do you mind giving me your contact information?"
The girl in the hot pants and tank top had a curvy, tall figure.
Especially when she arched her eyebrows at him, the heat in her eyes seemed as if it were sending electric shocks, stirring the imagination.
Chu Mo, with a gentle smile in his eyes, nodded lightly and, as he served the food from the pot into bowls and dishes, said in a warm tone:
"Chu Wen told me you've been looking out for her; you two must be really close. Can you tell me about what's happened to Chu Wen over the years?"
