Chapter 162 New Problems(3)

The room seemed to grow colder as Noah's gaze sharpened, yet he still said nothing.

The silence was almost suffocating, forcing Lionel to continue.

"After that… the shooter tried to fire again, but the gun jammed. He gave up on it, patted down Leo, grabbed the gold bar, and ran. The rest of the gang followed him."

"He didn't bother to finish Leo off, because he thought he had hit in the heart,"

"How do you know that?"

"Johnathan said, he heard him laugh and rap, 'I ain't Cupid, but I let the bullet fly,

Put a hole in your chest, now you heartless... so why cry?'"

Noah's fingers tapped the armrest in slow motion, his expression was unreadable. "What about Johnathan?"

"Johnathan took cover as soon as the gun went off," Lionel said, his voice faltering slightly. "He didn't come out until the attackers were gone. He knew staying out in the open would only get both of them killed."

Lionel paused, glancing at Noah nervously before continuing. "Once they were gone, Johnathan brought Leo here. He didn't take him to the hospital—for obvious reasons. We can't explain it after all, and Leo has some previous convicts so it would make it worse."

Brutal silence fell over the room as Lionel finished.

Noah leaned forward slightly, his voice low and deliberate.

"K-block, High Avenue Street," he repeated, his tone devoid of emotion. "A quiet spot. A dead-end."

Lionel nodded, beads of sweat forming on his brow. "Yes, Boss."

"And four masked men prepared enough to ambush one of ours and brazen enough to carry a gun."

"Yes," Lionel affirmed.

"One of them appeared to be a rapper, making bars about Leo's injury on the spot."

Lionel showed a shocked expression, as he didn't think of it that way. They didn't have a clue about who these people could be, but now that Noah said that.

They had a string that could lead them somewhere.

Noah leaned back again, his gaze distant as if his mind was in a different world.

The sound of his fingers tapping the armrest stopped abruptly, replaced by an icy stillness.

"Anything else?" Noah asked, his tone made Lionel's stomach twist.

"No, Boss. That's everything," Lionel said, his voice barely above a whisper.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

Noah's silence was louder than any words he could have spoken.

His expression remained calm, but Lionel knew from his previous encounter with Noah, that this was the calmness before the storm.

"Very well," Noah said finally, his voice chillingly quiet. "I'll deal with this… accordingly."

"I will let you know if anything comes up, for now, tell all members to be careful. Also, You and Ryker should only leave with a gun with you, understood?"

Nodding his head, Lionel replied immediately.

"Understood boss,"

"Bring me Johnathan," Noah said, his expression still calm.

"Yes boss," Lionel nodded, heading out to bring Johnathan.

"Boss, he is right here." Lionel gestured, as Johnathan stepped forward.

Looking at Johnathan, Noah stood up from his chair his expression unreadable.

He walked towards him slowly...

Standing in front of him, he placed his hand on his shoulder.

"Well done, for bringing Leo here so quickly. He could have died." Noah said as images flashed rapidly in his eyes.

Gritting his teeth slightly, Johnathan stood there, his shoulders tensed up, and his fists still clenched at his sides.

The expression on his face was shadowed with guilt and frustration.

He looked down, avoiding Noah's gaze as his voice cracked under the weight of his emotions.

"How can I look at Leo in the eyes after this?" he muttered, almost to himself. "I left him there… bleeding out on the ground like that."

Noah watched him carefully, his expression unreadable.

Johnathan's breaths quickened as he went on, his words spilling out like a crime confession.

"I didn't stay, Boss. I ran. I ran like a damn coward. Leo was lying there—" He stopped, his jaw tightening as he struggled to keep his composure. "I don't think he'll even want to talk to me after this. Not after seeing me leave him to die."

His voice wavered as he tried to keep it calm, the vulnerability in his tone contrasted heavily with his persona.

Johnathan swiped a hand over his face, frustrated with himself. "I should've stayed. I should've fought harder. I should've—"

"Shut up," Lionel interrupted suddenly, stepping forward. His tone was sharp, almost annoyed, but his expression betrayed his sympathy. "You sound like an idiot, Johnathan."

Johnathan's head snapped up, glancing at Lionel.

"You heard me," Lionel shot back, his voice steady, but his tone softer now. "You think Leo's gonna hate you? You think he's sitting there angry you ran?"

He gestured vaguely in the direction of the room where Leo was recovering after the surgery Noah had performed on him. "That guy is alive because you brought him here. Alive, Johnathan. He's not six feet under."

Johnathan opened his mouth to argue, but Lionel didn't give him the chance.

"Think about it. If you stayed and tried to fight a guy with a gun, how do you think that would've gone? You'd both be dead, that's how. Dead, with no gold bar and no chance to take your revenge on them." Lionel's voice grew quieter, more measured. "You're not a coward for running, you're smart for doing what needed to be done."

Johnathan's jaw tightened again, his hands slowly unclenching. "Yeah, but—"

"But nothing," Lionel cut him off. "Leo's alive because of you. He'll know that once he wakes up. And if he's got half a brain, he'll thank you for it."

The room went quiet for a moment, as Lionel's words settled in the air. Johnathan's expression was still conflicted, albeit slightly less haunted.

Noah finally broke his silence, his voice calm but firm. "Lionel's right. You did what needed to be done. It wasn't easy, but you made the call, and it was the right one."

Johnathan looked at Noah, his voice quieter now. "But what if he doesn't see it that way, Boss?"
