Chapter 765: When They Show Up Casually
I had Sherry and Melanin return to their normal duties and told them I would find them if I needed help.
For now, I would rather face this guy alone since he apparently has some kind of mask that he could use to possess other people so I don't want to risk making them his new victims.
Not to say I was cutting them out completely of course. They were sent here to investigate this in the first place so I told them to just watch me from the shadows and prepare to call for backup in case things go south.
When dealing with Off-Worlders, you never know what they have after all.
I went back to the town and flew over to the building that was marked on the map to be where this female Mahun was supposedly staying at.
The only problem was that I didn't know what she looked like and this was a relatively big inn with a number of patrons staying in it.
She wouldn't be leaving at this time of the night so I will most probably resume my search tomorrow in the morning instead.
And the best way to do that was to just stay the night here and have my Shadow Guards keep watch.
Perfect plan.
I went up to the counter and the female Mahun standing behind it greeted me energetically.
"Welcome dear guest! Have you made a reservation with us tonight?"
"Oh, I haven't I'm afraid, is it fully booked?"
Drat… I hadn't considered that… I might need to stake out this place by staying outside if this place had no rooms…
She took out a book which I assumed was their ledger and took a moment to read through it.
"Umm… We don't have any more private rooms available but we do have shared rooms if that is ok with you?"
I tilted my head, "Shared rooms? How do those work?"
"Oh, they're simply rooms where guests would be renting on a per bed basis. Currently we have a room with four beds and there's still one bed available if you wish to take it. It's five Decreas a night."
Damn, that's cheap as hell.
Hmm… I would have thought that these were kind of like dormitories until I remembered that this town functioned as a stopover for people travelling to and from the desert so they'll most likely only be here for a night before moving on.
So for travellers who aren't rich merchants that could afford the more comfortable inns, they would choose these cheaper alternatives to stay the night instead.
I didn't really care about sharing a room with strangers since I was also only here for only a night anyway and I was here to find the woman that was deemed suspicious by both our maids and Greia.
Who knows, maybe she might even be staying in the same room?
"I'll take it," I decided, pulling out a Medium Copper coin to place it on the counter.
She slid the coin off the table before sliding a key with a wooden number tag attached to it in its place.
"Thank you for your patronage, dear guest. The room number is on the tag and you can find it on the second floor. Please enjoy your stay!"
I thanked her and took the key with me to ascend to the second floor, looking for the door with the numbers that matched my key.
I found it easily enough two doors down the corridor and I gave it a knock before slotting the key into the keyhole to unlock it.
Stepping inside, I found that the room was as the clerk had described where four beds were squeezed into a relatively small room in each corner with a small bedside table.
The only light source came from a small Light magic infused Mana Crystal above the door which made the room relatively dark but at least still bright enough to make out the objects in the room.
There weren't even any privacy screens in between the beds…
Two of the beds were already occupied and thankfully they were all females, though I wasn't sure if it was done intentionally or not.
With how this World treats sex, the rooms could be mixed gendered for all I know.
One of the unoccupied beds already had a bag dropped on it so I suspect that the third occupant was currently out and would return later.
I did a quick scan of the two girls with [Screened] but none of them were that Rex guy so I gave them a slight nod in greeting before moving to the only bed that was empty.
I set my Pack of Folding on the bedside table before moving to sit on the bed, pausing when I realised that the two girls were staring at me.
"Is there something wrong?" I asked them, wondering if I did something taboo or weird since this was my first time staying in a place like this.
The two girls didn't answer and quickly looked away, pretending that they were busy instead.
I wonder what that was about?
Deciding that it probably was just them checking the newcomer out, I slid myself under the covers and got ready to go to 'sleep'.
I wasn't interested in making friends here and it doesn't seem like they were as well.
The other two didn't seem bothered by my lack of interaction and went back to doing their own things.
I opened my eyes a crack to see that one of them seemed to be doing maintenance on her sword while the other one was in the midst of combing her hair, though the bow propped up against the side of her bed suggested that both of them might be Mercenaries.
I'm not sure if both of them were in the same party but judging by how they was a noticeable distance between them, I would guess they were strangers.
Just as I was going to check on my Shadow Guards to check their status, the sound of a key sliding into the keyhole could be heard from the door.
I remained still even as the door opened, allowing the last member of our room to walk in.
They paused when they reached my bed, probably surprised to see the empty bed was now occupied. But they said nothing and continued to their bed.
I wanted to peek at the person to check their stats but since their bed was located directly in front of mine, there was no way for me to look in their direction without turning my head upwards.
But the woman opened her mouth to speak which basically eliminated my need to check her stats.
"That tub time was next level chillaxin'! I'm totally vibing with my wallet's beefy glow-up, like, cash flow is on fleek, amirite?"
I froze.
The two girls opposite me didn't seem to react to her words and merely gave her a look, clearly not understanding what she was talking about.
Ok good… I was worried that those two might have been her allies but their reactions confirmed that they weren't.
Do I just attack her right now?
I slowly shifted my head to look upwards, spotting the woman who was completely naked while seated on her bed, her legs positioned in such a way that her sex was on full display.
I used [Screened] on her.

Wow… You really are hated huh?
But one thing I noticed though… Why does it refer to her as a 'him'?
Oh wait… He has that Somatomancy skill doesn't he? This might just be him transforming himself to look like someone else here…
His original form might be a male!
Damn, I totally forgot about that…
But that would mean one thing though… I better take care of him before he escapes and he transforms himself again to hide. But how do I do it without the other two--
"Whoa, epic plot twist! It's you! What's your deets again... Oh wait, Aster, got it! LOL, this is like cosmic level destiny or something! What with us colliding in this space-time noodle, so cray-cray!"
…
Fuck! How did he know?!
I immediately sat up on my bed and narrowed my eyes on the guy, only to see the woman smiling back at me.
"Are you, like, totally trippin' on how I peeped that? I'm basically in the know on all your deets, 100%, like, my vision's on another dimension, you feel me?" The Off-Worlder laughed.
Damn… That means this person most likely also has [Screened]...
Fuck it, let's do it then.
