Chapter 556 Fortune Lady's Warning
Chapter 556: Fortune Lady's Warning
Charles and Jessie arrived at a carriage house named 'Alpite Cottage' a few minutes later and spotted Oliver standing at the entrance. A horse-drawn carriage with two white horses appeared on his left side.
Unlike the previous luxurious one, this one appears to be made of brown wood and decorated with golden lines.
It was the Hackney Carriage type.
After seeing their arrival, Oliver gave them a light bow, opened the carriage door, and handed Jessie a crystalline card.
"It's 0.94 Arcane Points, My Lady." He added.
"Oh? It's expensive here, isn't it?" Jessie took the crystal from Oliver's hand and stored it in her pocket.
Then, she stepped forward and walked into the enclosed wooden carriage.
Meanwhile, Charles stopped next to the carriage gate, shook his head, and spoke.
"You can get into the carriage. I'll drive."
Then, he took the whip from Oliver's hand, moved towards the carriage's front, and climbed up to the driver's seat.
Sitting comfortably in the driver's seat, he took the horses' reins and waited for Oliver to get in.
Once he did that, Charles pulled the reins a bit, made a clicking noise, and started driving the carriage.
While doing so, he also took out his pocket watch, checked the time, and realized that it was already 7.32 A.M.
"I must go to Langton Street first." He quietly drove the carriage, turned left, entered the alley on the left, and started driving towards the southern end of the Underground District.
...
Rocky Street, Underground District, Miracle City.
At that moment, two black-colored wooden carriages entered Rocky Street, moved towards the end of the street, and soon stopped at a two-storied house's entrance.
A second later, Professor opened the carriage door from inside, walked out of the carriage, and looked at the white-painted house.
He then glanced around, noticed no abnormality on the street, and nodded.
In the meantime, the silver-haired security guard John and other security guards walked out of the carriages and stood next to him.
"What are your orders, Professor?" John asked in puzzlement.
Meanwhile, Professor furrowed his eyebrows, walked towards the fence gate, and was about to open it but stopped.
At that moment, an eerie black owl flew from the house's balcony, circled above their heads, and soon landed on the wooden fence.
"Who are you?" A feminine voice came out of the owl's mouth.
Professor stared at the owl in surprise for a moment and responded.
"I'm the Director of the Security Department. We are here to investigate a suspect."
On the other hand, the woman was surprised by Professor's words and hurriedly responded.
"I'm sorry for not recognizing you, sir. My husband told me a lot about your past achievements. Wait a minute, I'll tell him to come downstairs."
Just as the feminine voice ended, the owl flapped its wings, flew back to the building, and soon entered inside through the balcony.
"Husband? Who is she talking about?" John frowned deeply, opened the fence gate, and started walking inside.
Taking a look at the yard, the Professor also stepped inside and soon arrived under the porch.
At that moment, a young man also opened the wooden door from inside and showed his face to them.
He was a young man in his twenties with wavy blonde hair, a snub nose, and amber eyes, and he wore a casual outfit.
Upon seeing Professor and other security guards, the young man looked confused, locked his gaze on John, and asked.
"Did something happen, Captain?"
John stared at the young man in surprise and asked.
"What are you doing here, Ezra?"
Ezra got stunned by his words and quickly responded.
"What do you mean? It's my house, Captain."
"We've been duped."
Professor sighed in frustration, turned around, looked up at the sky, and stared at the white clouds in confusion.
'Why did he lead us to this house? What is his next destination? Who is he going to meet this time?' A frown appeared on Professor's forehead.
'No. Something is wrong. That blonde-haired man was chasing after Ezra only when I first met him. Later, I confronted him and was caught off-guard by his time-stop spell. If not for the 'Wish' spell, I wouldn't have entered the 'Time-Loop' spell and learned more about this sneaky enemy. But what is his main goal? It's to prevent the destruction of the city, right? Yes, that's why he met Elder Seer and tried to save him last time.'
'But I managed to stop everything and even broke the loop. What did Elder Seer tell him before his death?'
His face was filled with frustration.
'What is this guy planning?' He moved his left hand towards the golden bracelet and contacted someone through the communication device.
A click noise came from his bracelet a few seconds later, followed by a seductive woman's voice.
"I was just about to contact you, Fate Professor-"
Meanwhile, Professor interrupted her and asked in a hurry.
"Did you find the passenger's name, Fortune Lady?"
A tongue-clicking noise came from the other side, followed by a deep sigh.
"Yes, I just found something interesting." The woman from the other side paused for a moment and added calmly.
"His name is Charles, Fate Professor. Does it ring a bell? You seemed to have stayed in the same city as him around 25 years ago."
"Charles?" A surprise flashed on Professor's face.
Having recalled all the details about Charles in a second, he asked right away.
"You mean Charles Nightwind? Didn't he die a decade ago? Sasha told me that she killed him using her 'Love Curse,' though."
"No, she didn't. Charles seems to have survived that ordeal unscathed and even broke free from his destiny. I advise you to act cautiously. There is something else within him that gives me an eerie feeling. One wrong move and everything will be over." The Fortune Lady's voice sounded deadly serious.
"He has the power to interfere with our Project Destiny?" Professor suddenly felt that the seriousness of that mortal had risen to ten folds.
"No! You still didn't understand, Fate Professor. He isn't a problem, but that thing within him is the real problem. Moreover, that thing has the power even to alter the course of history itself!"
"You are making me anxious, Fortune Lady. So, you want me to take that thing forcefully from Charles?" Professor asked.
"Fool! I felt the gaze of Myxenta when I looked into its origin. Avoid him at all costs and survive. Ignore this freaking mission and leave." The Fortune Lady snapped in an angry tone.
"Myxenta? Wasn't she the 'Ancient Goddess' who sacrificed her own life to create the Hundred Miracle Gold coins? I heard she died around 30,000 years ago, right?"
"It must be one of the Miracle Gold Coins. I heard that those coins have Myxenta's will and power in them. Anyway, both the Lawful and Chaotic Gods are paying close attention due to your earlier actions, so be careful."
Before Professor could ask another question, the Fortune Lady ended her call from the other side.
"Cowardly old hag." Professor glared grimly, reached for a cigar in his pocket, and attempted to take it.
However, he soon noticed a small paper in his pocket and pulled it out.
It was a white paper commonly used for writing.
While checking, he recognized two words written in an unfamiliar language and tried to decipher them.
"Luck... No. Good Luck?" His face contorted all of a sudden.
"Damn it! He is playing with me." He got furious inside and spoke in a cold tone.
"John, we're leaving. I will catch him before he does anything serious." He was startled by Fortune Lady's warning, but he had his own objective.
'After all this preparation, I can't back out now. To control Project Destiny, I must control this city fully. Demons and devils are untrustworthy.' He shook his head, stepped inside the carriage, and sat down on the leather seat.
John and others also followed in his footsteps and entered the carriages.
Before long, two dark-colored carriages moved away from Ezra's house entrance and went towards the street's junction.
