Chapter 900: The future generations
[OP: ]
Looking out of the high window from the highest point of the academy castle, the headmaster smiled warmly as he looked at the children in the garden.
"It is a rare sight…"
His glowing eyes contained many colours, the smile he had was unique and there was a unique calmness on his face.
{ "This is a school for the children, and yet there are rarely any occasions when the children actually act like children." }
His familiar, the wise owl, was also looking at the scene far below them.
The clouds and distance separated them and the view in the garden, but, to their special eyes, this much distance was nothing much.
"They are having fun as well."
{ "It is rare children their age would look so happy playing a simple game like that." }
The children their age were called adults but to beings like them who had lived for thousands of years, they were nothing more than young people who had a great future ahead of them.
They had many things to see in their lives, many experiences to live through, many things to look after, and many more things to learn from.
They were young and had infinite potential.
There was talent hidden in all of them, and they will have many chances to find and carve that raw talent into something they could admire.
"It is those smiles that give this position a meaning."
As the headmaster, there were a lot of things that he had to look after. There was a lot of things that he had to take care of and a lot of things that he had to work out with so that this institution could keep running as smoothly as it always was.
The position of headmaster was not simple and it was not someone with a lot of strength that could qualify for this position.
It had been thousands of years he had held this position waiting for the next qualified person that could take this burden away from him.
He also wanted to rest… but, that time had yet to come.
This place needed him more than ever in these turbulent times, and his potential successors were still growing up.
{ "Merlin…" }
The way the headmaster looked down at the happy faces of children running around catching one another was a little concerning for his companion.
It was not everyday that he saw that warm, happy look on his master… and at the same time, it was not everyday that he saw that deep sorrow inside his heart.
"I've gotten old, Harry. It is a fact."
In his long time as the headmaster, he had been through countless things.
He had lived a long life and he had not many regrets.
His younger days weren't the best and he was not the best student that his teachers could be proud of.
He himself was a troublemaker that hardly had any close friends.
In his younger days, he had done things that not many people knew in this era. But then, he met the person that taught him.
The previous headmaster… he was a strange person that saw something in a troublemaker that was infamous all over the town he lived in.
He brought him to this paradise-like island, to this academy that changed a lot of things for him.
"I would have loved to experience that kind of blind joy when I was that young."
He himself had now forgotten just how old he was…
The life of a wizard was long. Especially for someone who was not exactly part of the society.
"Haaa…"
There was a happy smile on his face, and a little envy in his eyes.
He remembered those old days.
Those days with his teachers in this very academy, the days with his master.
He was good when it came to studying and magic, but that was the only thing he was good at.
In the past, he had arrogance.
Everywhere he went, he was the best. He was the strongest, but that strength had cost him a lot, so he was too proud of it.
However after he came here, he saw he was not much different from any child attending this academy.
There were things that he was good at, and things that he was so bad at that he was embarrassed for it himself.
There were many things that he could not be good at till the end however hard he tried, and at some point, he gave up and focused on the things that he was good at.
In this era, he was called the [Perfect being] by many people.
They admired him for his achievements and for what he was doing, but not many knew much about his past. And nearly no one knew his life before he joined the academy.
"They are the future generation that will move the world forward."
As the headmaster, he was stuck in his position.
He was bound but he was not restricted… which was even more miserable.
The position that every individual looked up to, the position that held some of the highest authorities in this entire world, and the person who had to not only look after the future of this world but also maintain the present for the talents that were still hidden somewhere around this world and deserved a chance to shine.
To be the headmaster, there were a lot of requests that a person needed to meet. And, they were cruel.
His own master did not want to pass on this great responsibility to someone that still had a lot to learn, but he had to leave this world earlier than him.
He was still not qualified for this position when he took his place, there was still that he still did not know and could not handle.
There were many people that had helped him back then, and today as well, there were many people that helped him regularly.
It was all thanks to them that he could take little breaks like these and watch over the new generation that will move the world forward…
"Today is a nice day, Harry."
He sighed while looking at the happy children with a smile, knowing how some of them will do what they wish to do after they leave this place.
Some will not be doing what they had wished for, he knew that.
There will be some that will have to do things that they never knew they were so good at, there will be people who just do what they end up with, and there will be many who find a home and settle down, doing what brought them happiness and content.
Some will strive for a higher position all their lives, some will live tough lives, while some will struggle endlessly.
Some will be slaves to their destinies, while some will break away from the bondages of this world and achieve something even he never dreamed of.
He had been here, in the position of the headmaster for a little too long so he had seen countless children becoming adults and depart this world before him.
He was a being destined to live an even longer life… and he knew the best just how miserable it was.
He had achieved what he wanted long ago, and he had helped younger generations achieve what they wanted while still being the headmaster.
{ "Indeed, Merlin. This is a nice day." }
As his companion who had accompanied him for a great part of his life, he understood him the best.
And as his familiar, there was little he could help him with.
"We shall get back to work then."
{ "Indeed." }
His position as the headmaster was going to remain stagnant. He was here and even after these children are gone, and the future generations arrive here, he would still be here.
There is still a long time left before this world meets the individual destined for the same misery that every headmaster of this academy has ever experienced.
Perhaps they will be a little different from him, just like how he was a little different from his predecessor. But, the position of the headmaster was a burden that forced many to reshape themselves.
It was not necessarily a bad thing…
"They are precious."
But with great powers and authority, responsibilities and restrictions inevitably greets us.
{ "So precious they make everything around them shine." }
Their eyes were looking at many things at the same time.
But even among them, these innocent children who will bring a new change to this world were something that he could not help but admire.
"Let us go…"
Tomorrow, they will start leaving for their home. And though this place will get a little quieter, it would be for the best.
{ "Yes." }
The grand conference will bring many changes to this world.
And, the academy will undoubtedly be in the centre of all these changes happening all over the world.
The demonic humans, the other powers lurking in the shadows waiting for the right time to strike, the demons who wish for the destruction of this nature and this world, as well as the evil cultists who had now surfaced…
They did not know how long they had been around or just how deep their roots were, but they were now a bigger threat than the gods that were conspiring something equally dangerous.
Only he knew how this peaceful world was moving towards a dangerous future. Only he, as the headmaster, the maintainer of present and protector of future was burdened with this dangerous knowledge.
But someone who had carried this burden for centuries… he knew just how difficult and painful it would be for someone new, someone younger, someone inexperienced to carry this burden.
That was why he was waiting.
-Ooooooooooooong!
That was why he had waited for so long… and that was the reason he was looking forward to the future generation that seemed to have someone capable of taking over his place.
