Chapter 239: Star-Studded Guests
"Are you seriously asking for a refund at this stage?" Baffled, Lang Shan nearly wanted to strangle Hans Zhou for such a terrible joke.
If he were to truly refund the investment, then the project would be halted, equivalent to costing him a lot of money in the process.
How could Lang Shan be laughing at such a joke?
"I don't care," Hans Zhou rolled his eyes.
"It's a good thing those two people didn't bother with us, otherwise, my father was definitely going to punish me further. I'm already in some deep mess, so I dare not involve myself with you any further."
With that said, Hans Zhou was immensely quick in switching his face, having distanced himself from Lang Shan, who he treated as a close brother earlier.
"You little sly bastard!" Infuriated, Lang Shan's veins nearly bulged out as he cursed, "Stop acting like you are some good son either. Without me providing you with some investment plan, do you think you can even attend today's event?"
Shortly after a large fight broke out between the two supposedly good friends, prompting the nearby security guards to be stunned and baffled.
"Contact some of the people regarding Young Master Hans Zhou and Lang Shan having a brawl outside the venue." One of the guards in charge commanded, unwilling to intervene personally.
While the brawl intensified outside, Xu Feng and Zhao Kai entered the glamorous venue.
The opulence of the venue immediately enveloped them as they stepped inside.
The grand hall was bathed in the warm, golden glow of crystal chandeliers hanging from high, vaulted ceilings. The marble floors beneath their feet were polished to a mirror-like finish, reflecting the dazzling lights above.
The walls were adorned with classic artwork and ornate mirrors, adding to the sense of timeless elegance. Antique furnishings, each piece a testament to exquisite craftsmanship, were strategically placed to create intimate seating areas.
Admiring these pieces of artwork, Xu Feng really had to say Zhao Gaofu had some exquisite taste in art. He was positive that each of these artworks surpassed his current wealth.
However, unlike Xu Feng who was admiring the area, Zhao Kai himself felt suffocating the more they walked.
"Feng, this place is no good." Zhao Kai uttered, wanting nothing more than escape. He thought he had prepared himself already, but only after experiencing it personally, did he realize just how weak-willed he was.
"If you keep acting like that, then I don't mind you leaving. I'll just relay it to your sister how you got cold feet and ran away." Xu Feng calmly explained.
Dumbfounded, Zhao Kai's face turned pale.
"This isn't how the script should go. You should be pacifying me and not letting me act willfully." He exclaimed, clearly unwilling to face his sister's wrath.
"I've already dragged you inside like I was instructed. My job is done, so whether you want to escape or not. I don't care." Xu Feng chuckled softly, ignoring the dazed Zhao Kai as he continued to walk forward.
Seeing how Xu Feng truly had no intention of stopping him, he could only grit his teeth and rush ahead, opting to continue with the event.
Sometime later, they were greeted by a more blinding light, with the lobby being extremely spacious. It was even larger than what you would expect in typical parking lots that could accommodate hundreds of cars. Stay updated via мѵʟ
One would feel like a tiny ant upon entering such space.
While Zhao Kai was stunned by the decoration, Xu Feng's eyes remained fixated on a person.
'Why is she here?' He wondered silently, having recognized a woman dressed glamorously. She was none other than the person he had encountered at the Azure District, Zhang Jingyi.
Suddenly, a thought popped up and he couldn't help but come to the conclusion that she came here because of the surname Zhao.
'It can't be right? She has that much free time?' Xu Feng refused to believe that this woman was actually trying to track him down after such a long time.
However, he would be incredibly wrong to think so when Zhang Jingyi noticed someone was staring at her. As she turned around to check the source, her eyes lit up before a smirk appeared on her face.
"Haha, I've found you at long last Zhao Kai!" She shouted, alarming the other star-studded guests who held lots of power and status.
"What's going on?"
"Zhao Kai? Isn't that the illegitimate son of Zhao Liang?"
"It seems like this is interesting. An illegitimate son got the attention of Zhang Tian's precious daughter, Zhang Jingyi."
The matter of an illegitimate son might be kept well away from the public, but the people here are all influential and powerful enough to know this secret.
Not to mention, they could be considered equal to the Zhao Family, so they aren't even afraid to openly gossip.
Meanwhile, Zhao Kai was the most confused person as he had never interacted with the jewel of Zhang Tian's daughter at all.
'Why did she shout for my name?' He cried inwardly, feeling like this must have been a prank by someone.
As he watched Zhang Jingyi approach him, Zhao Kai hurriedly raised his hand and shook his head. "N-No, you got the wrong person. I don't know you well, Miss Zhang."
Just when the crowd was somewhat confused by Zhao Kai's behavior, Zhang Jingyi's eyebrows twitched.
"Who are you?" She asked coldly, unamused that someone was trying to block her path. "I wasn't even calling for you."
"Eh?" Stunned, Zhao Kai looked at her in disbelief.
Was there any other Zhao Kai here besides him?
Given the commotion made, the Zhao Family members were also alerted and arrived just in time for the scene.
"What are you doing, little brother?" Zhao Xin suddenly called out, unable to fathom how he managed to earn the irk of the usually gentle Zhang Jingyi.
Meanwhile, Zhao Ming and Zhao Heng in the back, were eager to see the situation unfold. They were Zhao Kai's half-eldest brothers, and knowing that he was invited by their little sister, how could they not know what she was trying to do.
However, with Zhao Kai being idiotic enough to provoke Zhang Jingyi, they were more than satisfied with the situation, saving them the trouble of targeting him.
